Besides evermore not having as much hype or acclaim (though it still had a lot of both), the main reason is that folklore’s debut week benefitted from people buying the multiple versions of the CD and vinyl (with 8 different covers of each) and having them count as digital sales on release week. Evermore hasn’t had multiple covers and any vinyl sales haven’t counted yet because under the new rules the sale doesn’t count til the vinyl ships. Folklore also benefited from merch bundles which are not counted on the charts anymore. By this point in folklore’s run, Taylor has already sold a bunch of signed CDs which she hasn’t done for evermore. If she had, evermore’s total would easily be much higher.

This all makes me wonder if Taylor will be releasing multiple covers and signed versions of evermore. I thought it would’ve happened by now, but maybe she’s waiting for the Grammy’s? Fans would definitely snatch those up.

I have also read from fans that the evermore CD is not well stocked in stores (lots of reports of stores being sold out), so that could be contributing too.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now MRC Data. Pure album sales were the measurement solely utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units.

Taylor Swift’s Evermore is steady at No. 4 (7,000; down 34%).
