  • Some people are ready to blindly trust some random French MJ fan but are putting in question SoundScan numbers.

There is a reason thebigham and I say this is real. I never even spoke to thebigham but we are both well assured the numbers are real. We didn't take it for granted, without any kind of validation.

    Thanks for sharing, thebigham.

                Thanks a lot,thebigham!

Really curious about The Immaculate Collection,Ray Of Light and, especially,True Blue/Like a Virgin!
Hope we get to know their updated numbers !
For albums released before SoundScan began, the totals are off.

TIC is now at 4.054 million when it should be over 6 million.
TIC was at 5.054 M in 2004. As it has been mentioned it should be close to 6M now as the last figure we got was close to 5,9 some years back.
A bit strange that it's almost the same number but missing a million.
So almost 2M went into thin air?
Last update was 5,993 if I remember right, my estimated sales would've been at around 6,05m, which is exacly 2m more than currently posted ones

Why would anyone trust MJD in the 1st place. He's numbers are just what he thinks and are not real or correct.

Nope, they don't destroy them . . . they simply return those unsold copies to the label.

Generally when an album gets extremely overshipped many of those extra unsold copies get shipped back / returned to the label again.

This is one major flaw and criticism the RIAA has faced many times in the past, for example, if an album ships 1.000.000 and gets certified Platinum but then 250K copies are shipped back to the label these copies never get discounted at all on the RIAA who will always show that album as Platinum (1.000.000) even after the 250K copies that got shipped back.

This why SoundScan is often considered superior.

Both sources are credited as official tho. Just different systems.
