I've always thought the streaming numbers for her 80s hits were a bit lower because the music is just so dated to the 80s. So people only listen to it when they are in the mood for nostalgia, or having an 80s party or whatever. Whereas songs like Hung Up are still fun and fresh to listen to at any time, so I'm not surprised to see it as her top gaining song. I also think Frozen is a good example of a timeless song that isn't dated. Other than those two, most of her catalogue doesn't sound fresh enough listen to unless you are specifically in the mood for nostalgia.

Yes, the ALBUMS are dated but not the classic singles like Holiday, La Isla Bonita, Live to Tell, Like a Prayer, etc. I don't see how these singles have aged worse than, say, the singles from Thriller or Bad. Those singles sound just as "80s" as Madonna's hits.

What I've heard is that her movie it's about her life until early 90's only - so only hits from that period would be featured and see Streaming boosts.
If the film is successful enough they will most likely do a sequel (like they want to do for Freddy Mercury/Queen bio-pic). Most non-disclosure agreements are 10 to 20 years so the second film may end with "Superbowlt" to include"Hung Up", her Guy Richie divorce and "American Life backlash" (and be released on 2030) - by then her later 90's and 00's may have a streaming surge as well.
Elton John had an increase also after his movie but not as big. It will all depend on how good that film really is and how will do at Box Office.
When Madonna is dies her streams will also increase brutally like we have never seen before. People will remember and celebrate her as they do with all dead artists. She will also be much more explored by Record Companies that only have a catalog to manage (and some unreleased tracks) as new music can't be done. It happens to everybody but there wasn't anyone as big as her to die since Michael Jackson passed.

Now I'm not sure of anything anymore
This film is really being anticipated and most people from 10 to 100 are curious to see the movie. Some to know what secrets will be revelead and as a reminder of old times and many new kids because they are intrigued with Madonna as many hear a lot about her but know little (and media will probably be all over this movie if promotion go finally right!).

A song would probably need to have over 2000 strreams to generate as much dollars as 1 real sales generates (as that stream always count twice for both singles and albums charts/certifications).

During the 00's they used to say SALES UNITS and not POINTS. They only changed after streaming era (they methodology have been chaging along the time but all older songs those points are sales only - including "Like a Prayer" and "Hung Up"..Last edited by MadNuno; Tue December 8, 2020, 12:59.
