    WHAT'S THAT GIRL'S SALES?

    Hi Gary,

What are Madonna's overall digital songs sales?

Thank you and keep up the good work,

    Jim R.

    Hi Jim,

As requested, here is a look at the digital sales to-date, according to Nielsen SoundScan through the week ending April 25, 2010:

Top-Selling Madonna Titles Released Since 2005:

    2,751,000, "4 Minutes"
    1,200,000, "Hung Up"
    358,000, "Sorry"
    316,000, "Give It 2 Me"
    192,000, "Celebration"

Top-Selling Madonna Titles Released Before 2005:

    443,000, "Like a Prayer"
    322,000, "Material Girl"
    311,000, "Vogue"
    293,000, "Ray of Light"
    260,000, "Holiday"
    240,000, "Like a Virgin"
    217,000, "Music"
    211,000, "Crazy for You"
    189,000, "Santa Baby"
    184,000, "Die Another Day"

Madonna has sold 11.6 million digital songs to date.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These sales are now 10 years old - some below are 2012/2015 figures. With streaming and video views added, what songs are eligible for updated RIAA certs?

4 Minutes is eligible for 3xP with the RIAA.

    Hung Up is probably 2xP.

    I talked about Sorry above.

Give It To Me: 316k+ in sales, 26.7 million with streaming and 87.5 million in video views. Maybe Gold?

Celebration: 192k+ in sales, 40.0 million with streaming and 52.5 million in video views. I don't know.

Like a Prayer: 690k+ in sales, 217.0 million with streaming and 164.4 million in video views. Probably 2xP.

Material Girl: 347k+ in sales, 197.4 million with streaming and 67.5 million video views. Gold or 1xP.

Vogue: 450k+ in sales, with 137.7 million with streaming and 134.6 million video views. 3xP.

Ray Of Light: 293k+ in sales, with 38.5 million with streaming and 23.5 million video views. 1xP.

Holiday: 260k+ in sales, with 102.9 million in streaming and no video views. Gold?

Like A Virgin: 240k+ in sales, with 170.3 million in streaming and 94.4 million video views. 2xP.

Music: 254k+ in sales, 47.0 million with streaming and 27.9 million in video views. No change from 1xP.

Crazy For You: 211k+ in sales, 54.5 million with streaming and 37.3 million in video views. No change from Gold - 1 million.

Santa Baby: 189k+ in sales, 7.7 million with streaming and no video views. Not eligible for Gold.

Die Another Day: 184k+ in sales, 25.9 million with streaming and 9.8 million in video views. Not eligible for Gold.

    Thoughts?

So basically Madonna is Spotify's number one proper pre-2000 living female artist
I mean... that's oddly specific. Britney is pre-2000 for nearly two years, not just a few months. And these are global streams so I don't see why you feel the need to exclude Shakira's Spanish-language work. Whitney is still bringing in the streams whether she's dead or alive.

This was quite curious and beautiful to see, but bad timing: everyone interested in her work, is watching her Super Bowl again, not this.

Celine actually gets the most youtube views a year (despite having a horribly managed account) of the big four women but her spotify streams are not as good as Madonna's. You would think she would have similar or more streams than Madonna. My Heart Will Go On is actually the biggest song of all time according to chartmasters and Celine was the number one selling artist of the 90s--but no. Even songs you'd think would do well like "It's all Coming Back to me now" don't do well.

Madonna (you know her team did it) tweeted this today:

Through Oct. 2010, Sorry had sold 366,000 copies.

    Streaming: 37.1 million.

    YouTube views: 61.6 million

I'm sure with streaming and video plays, it is eligible for a Gold digital single certification with the RIAA.

MXT sold 26,000 tickets in London, so it corresponds well to the album sales actually. But she dropped the ball not performing on Graham Norton. The only new song broadcast in the UK was ‘Future’ from Eurovision and there’s no way that song or performance we’re selling the album.
