Even the Billboard 200 had a BU chart. 201, 202, etc...

That was the 80's. The even discontinued the chart in the second half of the 80's and once they brought it back they changed it a bit and made it start with #1. I never got into it fully, but it's fairly safe to assume it's mostly because #1 on BU doesn't actually equal to #101 on Hot100 (otherwise why the separate chart, just expand H100).

Thanks for the clarification, I actually never knew this, so for instance I always thought Everybody basically made 107 but actually it could have been 147 that week etc...so it's basically a pointless listing...

Yes. It's complete guesswork as to where songs from BU would actually place. #1 on BU could be #101 but easily #111 or #115. There is no way of knowing and no data we could even remotely calculate from.

Can we please stop putting bubbling under placements as +100 on Hot 100? Bubbling Under placements DO NOT correspond as continuation of Hot 100 as it doesn't take into account songs that already charted (and are thus not eligible for BU) but could still have more overall points towards Hot 100 than most songs on BU.

I always seem to forget that the American Life singles didnt chart on the bubbling under at all. For some reason the last 3 singles from AL just feel like they charted at 108 or something.
