Although they are different versions,they come from the same album.

The thing is that TIC version of "Like A Prayer" is literally a remix so it can't count towards the original album. Like I said it does count for the overall song's total but it's not correct to add it on LAP's album's specific total.

Don't worry, this is not something against Madonna it applies to other artists too. Different versions like remixes, reworked songs, etc that were not part of the original album are not counted towards that album's total.

30 years ago: Madonna's Like a Prayer ascended to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. The set spawned smashes in the title cut, "Express Yourself," "Cherish" (both reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100), "Oh Father" (No. 20) and "Keep It Together" (No. 8).

The Material Girl has just announced new material: her album Madame X arrives June 14; first, she'll perform on the Billboard Music Awards on May 1, sharing the stage with Maluma on their duet first single from the set, "Medellín."

The thing is that if one same song has a different mix and length (like a reworked / remixed version) it will count for the overall song / single total BUT won't count towards the album total as the "different" version doesn't belong to that album.

An example would be "Like A Prayer" (Album version) and (The Inmaculate Collection Version), both versions are different. All those streams do definitely count towards the individual song's total itself (as every remix counts towards the song too) but the TIC version won't count towards the LAP album.

Makes sense,but when you use the methodology the guy from Chart Masters uses,for example,it becomes messy.

Thing is,Madonna's Spotify is ,lke basically everything that involves her ,a MESS!
Amazing how her catalog is treated in such an amateur way .

As you somehow managed to reply in a completely different thread, let's continue here.

I said it's not true talking about this case, because 90% of her singles are divided. Even if you check Celebration credits you'll see that credits are not *nsynch with album credits, for example, Spotify doesn't recognize Madonna, Madonna Ciccone, M. Ciccone as one songwriter. So for Spotify, those are 3 differed songs

In this case, whatever is the reason - some views are not merged and it seems they will stay like that. Not much anyone here can do. That being said if I do a compilation overview (anyone else is welcome to do it too!) then I'll be splitting the numbers as I sad (total & compilation specific streams) as I'm aware of the "problem" and wanted to keep it simple by just counting album numbers.

Personally I'd prefer if the streams were split by albums - it would be a much better insight into true album streams.

Well there are some that aren't merged because they're of different length/different mix. That comes down to Spotify's internal software that analyzes the tracks and finds them to be of different version. LAP from TIC isn't merged with any version also. That's why I said if I did the compilations then I would do two set of numbers - one overall, and one just with tracks that aren't being double counted - but that requires a lot of checking and I don't have time now.

I think these numbers are fine as they show the stream numbers of album versions of the song - hence this being called an album overview.

Thanks for the info, but d*mn I had forgotten that the Spotify numbers posted a month ago had their tracks merged from different versions .. so these numbers are even and way lower.

The numbers are merged for the same track for all artists. This is something I touch on my reply to CandyShop. That's why I only did the albums, no other editions.

i can do them later today or tomorrow (but no promises ), but what I don't like is that Spotify doesn't actually track plays for each album.

For an example Hung Up has the same stream number on Celebration and on COADF, etc... So her compilations will have very healthy numbers regardless as her hits have more than decent numbers. I guess I could do a general count and also compilation exclusives separately (like only Celebration and Revolver for Celebration compilation). The latter can be used to add up to album number streams for the total, while the former would be double counting.

As an aside there are articles popping up in many publications discussing how radio and playlists are ignoring M due to what seems to be her age. Maybe there will be enough backlash (and in this case finally in her favor) that will prompt radio to actually play her. I have a good feeling.

She might not get her 39th top 10 but maybe her 58th Hot 100. Although the current methodology really invalidates or defies the records that others like Madonna made and broke. If today’s chart rules were in effect in the 80s and 90s every Madonna album track would’ve charted. But the chart rules back then required an official commercial release. As we all know this, it definitely bears repeating!!

But I’ll take as many #1s now as possible to extend her lead as artist with most #1s!!

This is not fair. it gives past artists unbelievable disadvantages.
