The Metallica song also got inside UK TOP 40 for the first time ever thanks to Stranger Things (same season).
The potencial of that series can be huge.

Metallica song was used twice in the season including in one of the most important scenes too (it was used for about 4 minutes).

If the song is only used a bit in one episode it will have similar feedback to "Material Girl" (that was used for 1,5 minutes and became a viral hit much thanks to that) but if the song is used 2 or more times (or in almost all season episodes like Kate Bush song) and if is used in important scenes than it has a real chance to at least do as good as Metallica song did and even return to the charts in a few countries.

"Live to Tell", "Papa Don't Preach" or "True Blue" may have a chance to be used in the new season.

We know they have a contract with Warner and most songs used are from Warner Music artists (including Kate and Metallica) so something good can happen but it's not realistic to think it will do as good as Kate Bush song (that was featured in over 25 minutes of the season, in over 15 different scenes on that season including 3 of the TOP 10 most important scenes as well).

Also both Kate Bush and Metallica songs had active roles in the series being used to save some characters lives (playing the song to fight possession or fight monsters). If a Madonna song is used but doesn't have an active role it won't get as hyped as it's no being used as "a show character weapon" as those 2 were.

Other songs used on Stranger Things were able to increase over 3 or 4 times the usual streams during more than 2 months (and end up having over twice the normal streams forever since) and that can also happen if a song is used just in a scene (and that's already very good). Of course it's not a huge viral hit but would still be great to see that happen (to Live to Tell or Papa Don't Preach or True Blue) but I would love to see Madonna be able to return to the charts with an old viral hit (would be AMAZING).

    • Yes, obviously it depends on how its used. It just doesn't mean that it's automatically going to chart.

      • i dont think they will use again the same artist in the soundtrack, but i will be glad if they use LTT in one good scene, like the kate bush song
Blue hydrangea, cold cash divine. Cashmere, cologne and white sunshine.
Red racing cars, sunset and vine. And we were young and pretty.

One of her most underrated ballads/videos. Not mentioned as much as I would like...

I disagree. The part of LTT where the song goes quiet would make for an iconic moment at an action point in the series. The production of the track also lends itself to being inserted through other scenes as, as they did with RUTH.

I don’t keep up with spoilers for the show but given the ending of the last season, I can’t see how it will time jump.

                                  • If we were to look at songs that could be used to great affect from LAP, the title track and Oh Father initially come to mind.

I agree that it deserves 400M views but the fact that it’s at 70M when some much much bigger hits are lower (Music for example) is already great

                                        • I think it’s worth pointing out a few things:

Stranger Things only used Kate Bush because Winona Ryder is a huge fan and made the request RUTH was used.

Warner may own Madonna’s masters, but Madonna, as owner of the publishing rights, will have final say on what can and cannot be used in the show. Madonna doesn’t own the publishing to Material Girl, although she does for Angel, which was used to a lesser extent in season three.

Enjoy this chat whilst you can because change is coming.

Any song that is used in Stranger Things has to have an emotional connection. RUTH worked because it had that and the fact 80s synth sounds are very much back in fashion - something Madonna never did.
I have a bad feeling about this.

You cant use logic. LTT is the best song of all time because im a stan and it elimated world hunger, cured HIV, etc etc. and it would 100% be as succesful as RUTH.

What happened with RUTH was illogical. It was embraced by an entirely new generation in a way no other song ever has been. Asking for lightning to strike twice just won’t happen.
