• Great post MrLeonix. 'Oops!...I Did It Again' remains one of the biggest pop eras of all time in Germany as far as international artists go . 2.15 million records is what some pop stars have sold in total.

#1 album for multiple weeks, three Top 5 hits (all sold no less than 250k), #1 hit for three weeks (Lucky), 10 sold out/close to sold out arena dates, etc. It's amazing that the lowest peaking single of the era still peaked at #12.

The album was #3 on the German Year-End Chart & it was the #1 female album of the year.

She totally slayed it, Germans simply loved the OIDIA era. I know it's a hard market for her these days but at least as pop music history goes we can say that she has her slaying era in Germany, this was without a doubt her definitive peak in that market.

Toxic might enter top 10 in 3 or 4 weeks, since it's doing more daily streams than Poker Face and Bad Romance.

• Thanks for the info, I particularly remember "Poker Face", "Bad Romance", "Bleeding Love", "Tik Tok" and "Umbrella" being massive (out of this world smashing songs), so it's cool to see that "Toxic" doesn't seem to be that out of place in terms of streaming.

• I did a little research and estimations for Latin America, I looked for a selected group of anglo divas and their performances in Latin America and based on both Chartmasters figures and my own personal estimations I managed to determine some of the most popular divas in the region.

Only Brazil, Mexico and Argentina (The top 3 biggest latin markets) were included for this quick study and the total units DON'T represent the entire Latin America.

Top Biggest Anglo Female Artists Overall (Brazil + Mexico + Argentina):

1. Madonna - 11,700,000
2. Enya - 4,730,000
3. Britney Spears - 3,250,000
4. Celine Dion - 3,125,000
5. Whitney Houston - 2,900,000
6. Mariah Carey - 2,850,000
7. Lady Gaga - 1,495,000
8. Avril Lavigne - 1,492,000
9. Beyoncé - 1,180,000
10. Rihanna - 1,085,000
11. Christina Aguilera - 988,000
12. Jennifer Lopez- 950,000
13. P!nk - 383,000

---

Top Biggest Anglo Female Artists Overall (Brazil + Mexico + Argentina) - Britney's Generation:

1. Britney Spears - 3,250,000
2. Avril Lavigne - 1,492,000
3. Beyoncé - 1,180,000
4. Christina Aguilera - 988,000
5. Jennifer Lopez - 950,000
6. P!nk - 383,000

--

Trivia:

- From the numbers I'm seeing Britney might be (very likely) the second biggest anglo female artist of all time in Mexico (only behind Madonna).

Mexico:

1. Madonna - 4,200,000
2. Britney Spears - 1,550,000
3. Enya - 1,400,000
4. Celine Dion - 1,050,000
5. Whitney Houston - 1,000,000

- She's by major lead the biggest female anglo artist from her generation in Latin America and perhaps she may be the biggest anglo artist overall from her generation in Latin America - I would have to check the males but I did manage to determine she was bigger than Eminem in Latin America with a huge lead:

Brazil + Mexico + Argentina:

- Britney Spears - 3,250,000
- Eminem - 1,525,000

-

Disclaimer: Please don't get passionate or take this that seriously, the majority of the names on the list were studied closely and the numbers are accurate in most cases but if you see something wrong on the list don't get defensive and simply feel free to correct the info.

• Honestly, I'm not surprised with the results. Britney has a huge fanbase here in Brazil and all her numbers are consistent (I mean, even Glory sold more than 40k copies). I don't understand why she doesn't tour in latin american countries anymore.

She did wonderful when she took the POM show to Asia and Europe . . . Imagine the slayage if she had brought the show to Latin America in 2018 too.

• Amazing post MrLeonix. I've always known Britney is huge in Latin America, but the fact she's ahead of HUGE names like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand in Mexico is just.....insane to me.

Contrary to popular belief, Latin America is not an easy market to crack at all. Many pop girls who are huge in the US and Europe seem to struggle big time (P!nk is a good example). And even pop stars who are believed to be huge due to their Latin roots (Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera) don't have the numbers to back it up.

Mexico is Britney's biggest Latin American market while Brazil seems to be her most consistent. Glory did better than Britney Jean & Femme Fatale did better than Circus.

The Femme Fatale Tour didn't do well there. I was very surprised she underperformed/flopped in Brazil and Argentina considering how popular she is over there.

I think only Mexico, Venezuela, and maybe Chile pulled through. According to this, she pulled 42,522 people in Mexico City (one of her largest crowds ever).

She should definitely give Latin America another chance, though. She'd probably do way better now.

It's a very loyal and consistent market for her, she definitely has her loyal fanbase here and she's like a really huge pop star, specially in Mexico.

Growing up here in Latin America the mania I experienced around Britney was insane and now in fact (from what I've checked) I'm almost (probably 80%) certain (I still have to check a couple people) that she's simply the biggest anglo artist of her entire generation over here. I have to say that I was really surprised when I found out (thanks to this study) that she had outsold Eminem by more than the double because I can guarantee you that Eminem was massive over here in Latin America and there was also a huge mania around him, I could swear they would be head to head so it was quite of a big deal for me when I found out. It speaks volumes about her generational dominance over here as an anglo artist.

As for Mexico, I honestly don't know what she did to be so loved there because she has done absolutely nothing for the latin culture, she literally gave a d*mn about Mexico and pretty much all of us Latin people Lol, always did english music and she never promoted here or anything yet she conquered everyone, I have to say MTV Latin America pushed her insanely here, like really massively and I think that might have helped a lot but the irony in all of this is that when she first visited Mexico the first thing she as soon as she arrived was showing the middle finger to the press and her fans (she thought they were paparazzis ) and that was a huge controversy not only in Mexico but all Latin America because even though she was visiting Mexico it was the first time she was visiting and doing something Latin America-related so it got spread all over here on the news, but yeah her arrival to Mexico consisted on basically showing the middle finger to them . . . not enough with that she did 2 concert shows there for her DWAD Tour and for the second concert there was a lightstorm like 10minutes into the show, she didn't like that and she simply stopped the concert, said bye, charged the money and left . . . In other words she literally sh*t on Mexico the whole time, yet Latin America kept loving her

She's also been one of the veeeery few female artists that have been able to perform at the Foro Sol stadium (and multiple times BTW) in Mexico. You need to be really big to perform there and most artists can't, not even some of the most famous latin artists can. You probably don't know who Paulina Rubio and Thalia are but just for you to have an idea they are literally the 2 best selling female Mexican divas of all time and they haven't been able to put a foot at the Foro Sol Stadium.

And yeah you're right, Brazil has been like her most consistent market ever, "Glory" is eligible for a Platinum certification there.

Totally.

The FFT did worse in Europe, she was going for Stadiums and Parks all over Latin America . . . . In Europe she was struggling to sell out down-sized arenas . . . yet that didn't prevent her from pulling amazing numbers (better attendances, boxscores and sell-out rates) when she came back with the POM Tour in 2018.

She was more of a bigger Icon / legend / legacy act in 2018 than she was in 2011, that's why she did so good in Europe and Asia with the POM Tour and I have no doubts that she would have slayed the sh*t out of Latin America if she had brought that show in 2018.

OT, but I just looked them on Pollstar for comparison purposes & you're right. It's definitely not that easy to sell out in Mexico.

If I'm not mistaken, people were refunded for the second show, so at least there's that. Her visit to Mexico was so iconic that she ended up releasing a whole ass documentary/DVD/book. The fact she was about to perform to 100K+ people is crazy.

Even with the messiness, 'In the Zone' still ended up selling 150K & her greatest hits album did 100K.

'Circus' was another huge album for her. It was among English Top 20 albums of the year both in 2008 and 2009, at #11 and #16. Even Coldplay’s 'Viva La Vida' didn't do as well, being #8 in 2008 then missing the Top 20 in 2009. The only albums which outperformed it charts-wise at the time were Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller' and Metallica’s 'Death Magnetic'.

& the fact both 'The Singles Collection' and 'Femme Fatale' outsold 'Circus' in Brazil is so crazy to me.

not just the album, but even singles like "Criminal" and "I Wanna Go" managed to become more or as successful as "Womanizer" and "Circus" . You can still hear those songs on the radio sometimes.

that's amazing! it's currently her most viewed video daily, surpassing Toxic and BOMT. I think it might reach 1b on YouTube in 4 or 5 years.

This is actually true, I would include "Till The World Ends" too.

Both "Circus" and "Femme Fatale" sold very similar in Latin America but I give FF the upper hand because it's singles were more popular over here, I would listen to "Till The World Ends", "I Wanna Go", and "Criminal" on radio stations way more than I ever heard "Womanizer", let alone "Circus".

FF era was a success over here.

Going back to this ... I've just realized that only 3 songs on the list are Pre-2005 / early-00s songs. And 2 out of those 3 are R&B tunes ("Crazy In Love" and "If I Ain't Got You).

So not only "Toxic" is literally one of the Top 3 early 00s female songs on Spotify but It's pretty much the biggest female Pop tune from the first half part of the 00s decade on the platform. The fact that "Whenever Wherever" (a massive early 00s smash) is lower speaks volumes on how good "Toxic" has done on Spotify.

Wow the "Britney" album quite increased a lot (it was at 150 million like a month and half ago).

Is it really increasing that much now? Or you're just adding the "Overprotected" Darkchild Remix and "Boys" remix to it's total? Beacuse in my humble opinion those remixes were only part of the singles releases and should only count towards the songs individual totals / as singles but should not be added towards the album count as they are not really featured on the album.

Same observation for BOMT's count regarding the "Crazy" Stop Remix (only the album version should count towards the album's total).

• She's slowly becoming a streaming force and I like that. Months ago she had less than 10 million monthly listeners and now she is almost over 13 million, literally 2 years ago she only had 1 song with over 100 million streams and now she's about to have 8. Not to mention pretty soon she'll be the first female artist with 9 albums over 200 million streams on Spotify.

And she's doing it without any form of new music in 3 years, what she's doing is pretty much based on name, legacy and catalogue alone. Her monthly listeners would be way higher if she released music or singles more often.

She's doing very good.

It is really impressive. There are some other pop singers that released an album last year/this year and have less monthly listeners than her.
