Me Against the Music has 184,000 chart sales
    https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...-chart__29839/

    November 19, 2020

By comparison, Britney's Me Against The Music has 189,000 chart sales, including 5.2 million streams.
    https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...mber-1__20981/

That's like 850 copies a month. With her streaming boost this year, it should be around 198-9K copies as of this month, so it'll hit Silver in no time.

And yet another underestimation Thanks for posting! GH:MP was such a smash in Asia. Do you know the sales for her first four albums in Taiwan?

                  • My estimations for Work Bitch's sales in the US

                    Using the ChartMasters method...
                    – South Korea : Genie streams * 3.05 (consistent with Gaon streaming numbers)
                    – Japan : AWA streams * 100/5.5 (AWA has 5.5% of the Japanese streaming market)– Elsewhere : Spotify streams * (370 – 8.5 – 9.5 – 33 – 9) / 207 (370 million global subscribers minus 8.5 million from South Korea minus 9.5 million from Japan minus 33 million from China divided by the number of Spotify only users minus 9 million more Asian users) + Genie streams * 3.05 (uses Genie rather than Spotify to extrapolate markets like Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam)
                    Audio
                    South Korea (Genie) - 2,795,000
                    Japan (AWA) - 197,533
                    World (Spotify) - 226,308,293
                    Total: 229,300,826

                    YouTube
                    Work B**ch (Official Music Video) - 361,506,792
                    Work B**ch (Official Audio) - 15,106,324 views
Work B**ch (Live from Apple Music Festival, London, 2016) - 2,992,746 views
                    Work Bitch (Auto-Generated) - 12,907,201 views
                    Total: 392,513,063

                    Comprehensive streams:
                    South Korean streams - 8,524,750
                    Japanese streams - 3,591,509
                    Global audio streams - 364,916,288

Estimating 35% of its global audio streams and 25% of its YouTube views come from the US, that's 127,720,700 and 98,128,265, respectively. 225,848,965 total streams, or 1,505,659 sales.

                    1,505,000 streaming sales + 1,056,000 pure sales = 2,561,000 units. Definitely overdue for a 2x Platinum certification.

                        Britney - 146,766

Clearly my estimate for Work Bitch's streams was a little too much I think about 20% of her YouTube views come from the US, rather than 25%. And her Spotify streams are probably closer to 30%. Global queen!

                        • Britney (album) sold nearly half a million copies in Japan by the end of 2002

And also I would like to speak briefly about Britney Spears. We released the album almost at the same time. I donユt know why Jive does it to us but we released the 2 biggest albums at the same time. For Britney Spears, we shipped about 150,000 which is now almost a half a million. We marketed these artists over a long period, by using singles releases etc. By the way, it depends on situation if you release a single, but in her case, we wanted to get a lot of airplay so we released a single.
In April last year, she came to Japan to do a Tokyo Dome show. As being a small company like us, I think it is unusual to have two artists this big. But that also involved about 50,000 people to come to the show.
After that her movie called “Crossroads” started in Japan. While she was in town, she did as many appearances as she could. We got every TV show that we could, as much as her time would allow. We also got very good press interviews. After that, we still kept pushing her. She appeared in a cameo appearance in an Austin Powers movie whereas we pushed another single at that time. And in the end of the year, we released a gift package, which sold very well too. We also did a TV commercial with X Box using one of her songs. And in the beginning of this year, she was chosen to be one of the Best Female artists at the awards at Bunka Hoso, Bunka Radio Broadcasting, which is, I think in a way we can also say that 2002 was the year of Britney Spears.

Me Against the music may be completely forgotten now, but it was a worldwide hit for sure.

#1 in Australia (made the year-end chart for both 2003 and 2004)
                              #1 in Europe
                              #1 in Spain
                              #1 in Ireland
                              #1 in Denmark
                              #1 in Canada
#2 in Italy (#31 on the year-end chart)
                              #2 in Norway
                              #2 in the UK
                              #3 in Belgium
                              #4 in Austria
                              #4 in Switzerland
                              #5 in Germany
                              #5 in Finland
                              #5 in the Netherlands

                              #11 in France
                              #13 New Zealand

It was Top 15 in every big market except for the US. And even then, #35 wasn't a terrible peak considering both Britney and Madonna were blacklisted from radio and there was no physical release.

                                #13 New Zealand

It was Top 15 in every big market except for the US. And even then, #35 wasn't a terrible peak considering both Britney and Madonna were blacklisted from radio and there was no physical release.
Ah ok. Thanks for clarifying. So it had some good peaks but not much longevity.

Depends on the market ... it spent at least 5 weeks inside the Top 10 alone in several markets:

Australia - 9 weeks inside the Top 10

Belgium Wallonia - 7 weeks inside the Top 10

Denmark - 5 weeks inside the Top 10

Irrland - 5 weeks inside the Top 10

Italy - 10 weeks inside the Top 10

Norway - 9 weeks inside the Top 10

Spain - 12 weeks inside the Top 10

Switzerland - 5 weeks inside the Top 10

                                  .....

And in other countries that I didn’t mention it still spent multiple weeks in the Top 10 .. for example even in Netherlands (which is a cr*p market for Britney) the song spent 3 weeks inside the Top 10.

So yeah ... it didn’t smash at the level of “Toxic” or “Everytime” but MATM was not the flop you think it was either.

                                  • MATM was a big success. Whilst charting on the GLOBAL top 40, it reached SALES of 1 million. Toxic and Everytime never reached 1 million sales whilst in the top 40, but they have since overtaken MATM of course. Toxic has suggested global sales approaching 6 million, 2.5 million for Everytime. Streaming would increase that further. MATM would be at almost 1.5 million sales worldwide it seems. < just going with the more realistic claims

how did MATM do in LatAm? I mean I assume it did well since both Brit and M were (are?) huge south of the border

MATM was farrrr from being a flop, it did overshadowed by the success of the other two(especially toxic which overshadowed all her 2003-5 releases) but it topped the charts in many countries and was top 10 hit everywhere (except us) probably eligible to some new certifications in Sweden, France and Belgium. it was more successful single than all the singles from “Britney”
even today when (sadly) it’s forgotten it is known to include one of her best (if not the best) choreography….

Yeah the choreo is amazing although the choreo of the Britney glee MATM episode is even better. Heather did her justice! I always liked MATM & thought the Times Square performance was killer.
