Wow, Femme Fatale did that. Shouldn't it be at least Gold with 30 weeks on the chart? I also feel like GH:MP is missing a certification, wasn't it huge in Asia?

No. GH: MP wasn’t certified Gold in Spain.

Regarding FF, the Spanish charts were expanded from a Top 50 to a Top 100 in 2003. Even though it stayed 30 weeks in Top 100, only 8 of them were in Top 50. It was a great improvement in Spain compared to her previous albums, as TTWE and IWG had lot of airplay here and it was a great era in Spain overall… but the album was far from Gold.

No. “Britney” didn’t sell 250k in Spain at all.
Certifications in Spain were based on shipments so going Gold on 1st week was completely normal. Even for albums that debuted low or stayed on chart just a couple of weeks. It doesn’t mean it sold 50k on 1st week, it shipped that.

The album was certified Platinum for 100k copies shipped on the 1st week of 2002, after the Christmas season, on its 10th week on chart at #25, and after that week it only stayed 3 more weeks on chart: 30-37-43. So obviously it didn’t sell 150k more once out of chart.

Regarding the “certifications are not automatic there, so it was probably certified once out of chart”, no. The Afyve yearbooks as well as that book about Spanish charts have the yearly certifications, and many albums were certified once out of chart or even catalog albums… And the official certification for “Britney” was only Platinum

That ABC article probably mixed up the Oops and Britney figures.
Thank you! I wanted to know because it's unlikely that they would just make figures up, so it makes sense that they mixed up the albums.

It's annoying that back then the chart was only a Top 50 seeing as the market was so healthy, whereas a decade later before streaming was included, you could make the Top 100 selling like 100 copies. I bet the album stayed in the Top 100 for a while.

          • I remember LostAvenger sharing Jive report on 'Britney' album sale as Instinct also posted on how CM has put this album on flat 10.1M after album getting shipped to 7M a number of promotions came about also I would want to mention Jive earlier reports were far from any sort of inflation I do still believe this album sold about 12M copies upwards which is far more than 10.1M as in a couple of posts Instinct gave some underestimations regarding this particular album in France too.

                  • Official certifications for ...Baby One More Time (album) in Latin America as of April 2000, per EMI Latin America.

                    Argentina - Platinum (60,000)
                    Brazil - Gold (100,000)
                    Central America - 2x Platinum (???)
                    Chile - 2x Platinum (50,000)
                    Colombia - Gold (25,000)
                    Ecuador - Gold (7,500)
                    Mexico - 2x Platinum (300,000)
                    Peru - Gold (5,000)
                    Uruguay - Platinum (6,000)
                    Venezuela - 2x Platinum (40,000)

It seems like these are actual certifications rather than in-house awards, so actual sales were even higher but Jive was always too cheap to update them. ...Baby One More Time was already eligible for 3x Platinum (450,000) in Mexico and Platinum in Colombia (50,000) at the time. Interestingly enough, they completely skipped Central America, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Possibly because they're not big markets but every number adds up.

                              • Hi, though I don't check ChartMasters a lot to me they are a very biased website and have taken away millions from Britney and made it some kind of competition for twitter stan wars I saw this wonderful comment regarding Femme Fatale data hope this can help :

                                Australian (ARIA) has data here,
                                https://www.dropbox.com/sh/k9o2q7p7o...%20Accreds.pdf
Do CTRL + F and search Britney Spears.

You will find “Hold It Against Me” “I Wanna Go” Till The World Ends”.

Hold It Against me has PLATINUM = 70,000 copies.
I wanna go has GOLD = 35,000 copies.
Till The World ends has 2X PLATINUM = 140,000 copies.
The Femme Fatale tour is gold in Australia = 7,500 copies.

Side note, this data is from 2011 so it’s outdated but at least you have something to add to the charts.

Belgium (BEA) has also some data from single.

                                https://www.ultratop.be/nl/goud-platina/2011/singles
Again do CTRL + F and search Britney spears and then it will come up with Till The World Ends.

Till The World Ends has GOLD = 15,000 copies.

Danmark (IFPI Danmark) has some data to.

Till The World Ends has GOLD = 15,000 copies and no just copies no streams or digital copies just pure physical streams.

                                France data:

belmont when do we think Piece of Me, Lucky, and Crazy (all versions) will hit 100M?

I find that a bit low, I mean even JLo is above her when Britney has more hits and a more iconic videography. Something is definitely up with the YT algorithm or something, I guess Britney videos don't get recommended enough. Toxic and Womanizer both started pulling mediocre numbers this year out of nowhere when she was growing on all other platforms.

Jlo has massive youtube numbers and her spanish songs get huge views. No surprise at all that she would be above Britney there.
Billie Eilish claims her second Number 1 single with What Was I Made For? , scoring a last-minute victory over Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night.
