I am answering a question and I sourced the link so they know to look there next time, thus answering the question and helping them find more info outside of this thread.

Didn’t I solve the short-term question, and provide the long-term solution so these questions can be answered by the person asking?

Isn’t a chart thread specifically supposed to discuss charts? That’s what I am covering. It’s on topic.

    Your rant is not.

Please stop clogging thread with unnecessary complaints.

You made your point, I am making mine: It’s done.
By saying something 10 people have said before… you’re causing issues and you’ve been here for a month… guess you won’t be around for long, peace newbie

    • As long as a post remains on topic then it is a valid contribution to a chart discussion thread. We have many threads dedicated to artists with long term careers and there is no problem discussing historical activity.

      Please move the conversation on.
I have a bad feeling about this.

Thank you, I can’t expect everyone to double-check each page to see if it was posted somewhere first, especially if we may have new information than the last time it was posted.

Guess my point on staying on topic applies, and Ewokguy15 who has been on here for 20 years since their join date can learn the lesson today…

Back on topic, Britney was able to achieve international success for her FF singles, although her album Femme Fatale was a noticeable drop from Circus.

It may catch up to Blackout in regards to single sales and pure sales when it is Re-certified, but I think Blackout wins on streaming.

          • I mean at the time of release Femme Fatale was definitely an underperformance. Think it sold around 700k. The singles definitely carried it.

So if we add streams, further track album equivalents and pure sales since, we would see it at at least 3 M WW sales easily, as streams were not a factor then. Even Chartmasters puts it about 5 M and they lowball it.

It isn’t a smash, but it’s not a flop either.
The 5 million at chartmasters is not sales, its CSPC, which is some random formula they invented. It doesnt mean that Femme Fatale has sold 5 million worldwide. In fact the figure they have for its global sales are 1,680,000 and 850k in the US and the page was updated in 2019.

              • Artoo can I please understand why other posters come here to troll? We as chart estimators knows MJD has downplayed Britney's sales just like other old Divas why he's being refereed as a source by random people here? The trolling here is too much as we fans can discuss Britney old sales as much as we want to, it's chart discussion anyway.

                • "...Baby One More Time" has replaced "Oops!...I Did It Again" as the #3 popular song on Britney's Spotify page.

                  • The comparison between circus and femme fatale is irrelevant…there are a lot of singer that release 10 million seller era and then fall down to an underperformed era that barely get gold in us.
In 2011, britney as an 90’s act was against singers from 2007-9 when most of her peers disappeared and releasing 2 million seller with 3 top 10 singles was very impressive…
plus let’s not act like the singles were local to us…I live in france and israel and ttwe and Iwg are her most known songs here (except oops baby and toxic) the fact they didn’t do so well in uk doesn’t mean they weren’t huge hits… here, they were even bigger than circus and 3

Britney is a tank in UK only , but the rest of other markets she performs very well

                        No idea.

All chart discussion and updates are valid. It’s worth remembering not everyone is a chart expert and some people simply don’t know any better. Thus, part of any ongoing chart discussion is going to have to involve an element of education from time to time, which can be done politely and with respect.

However if you feel someone is genuinely trolling:

                        1. Don’t engage.
                        2. Report the post and explain why it’s trolling.
                        3. Put the user on ignore if you don’t want to read any of their posts (past and future).
I have a bad feeling about this.

And two certified singles (one is top 10 and the other one had nice chart run longevity) it’s not a tank maybe for her standard but it’s not bad…

Sadly Britney has rarely promoted in the UK for the last twenty years. I don’t think she’s performed on British TV since 2004.

She performed for UK TV in 2008 and 2016. Other than that nothing else.

”Femme Fatale” went Gold and yielded a Top 10 UK single and two certified songs. Not a tragedy but definitely at the time it was her WORST performing era in the UK.

The era performed good and had solid results in Canada, France, Latin America, Sweden, and in USA (singles wise) though.
Rock lives forever: Led Zeppelin . Metallica . Pink Floyd . Nirvana . Radiohead . Pearl Jam . Oasis . Iron Maiden . Nine Inch Nails

I still have hopes the singles from that album will have their revival especially hold it..

Also she was barley played on UK radio, I think her album sales would of been so much higher if played , cause her hits are known but her albums are not

Actually, it's not. Melon doesn't combine all versions of the same song, but Toxic is ahead overall.

                                    1. Toxic (GH:MP) - 3.2M
                                    2. Toxic (Single) - 1.9M
                                    3. Toxic (ITZ) - 1M
                                    4. Toxic (The Essential) - 346.6K
                                    5. Toxic (Peter Rauhofer Reconstruction Mix) - 336.3K
                                    6. Toxic (ITZ Deluxe) - 138.8K
                                    7. Toxic (TSC) - 138.2K
                                    8. Toxic (2000s XL) - 96.4K
                                    9. Toxic (Glory Tour Edition) - 84.9K
                                    10. Toxic (Armand Van Helden Remix Edit) - 68.7K
                                    11. Toxic (Bloodshy & Avant's Intoxicated Remix) - 64.8K
                                    12. Toxic (30 Running Hits) - 52.8K

And there are a few more with 10-50K streams, so around 8M overall.

                                      • The underperformance of some singles from Femme Fatale in UK is somehow acceptable considering her incredible run of singles on the beggining of her career.

Most streamed Western pre-2000 female artists

                                          1. Mariah Carey - 262,300,800
                                          2. Britney Spears - 85,855,300
                                          3. Whitney Houston - 65,379,800
                                          4. Celine Dion - 64,997,100
                                          5. Jennifer Lopez - 59,396,200
                                          6. Christina Aguilera - 59,245,500
                                          7. Mandy Moore - 58,773,600
                                          8. Shakira - 36,203,300
                                          9. Madonna - 29,065,900
                                          10. Sarah Brightman - 27,940,700

The reason Mandy Moore has so many streams is because of the Tangled soundtrack. Mariah's AIWFCIY has 114.5M streams hence the huge gap between #1 and #2.
