The so-called UK automatic system is not always 100% accurate, there have been records that haven't been updated inmediately.

Her albums catalog is one of the worst performing of any major star in the UK - outside of GH, she doesn't have a single title that moves more than 1,000 copies annually.

I'd be keen to understand where MJ gets that 310k figure from - it's certainly never been publicly released.

I don't know how he came up with the number, but I found it interesting because 1) He's a credible and expert chart analyst and 2) He's kind of a Britney hater, he doesn't like her at all, so he would never be biased towards her, in all of his Britney articles / posts he shades her all the time and often discredits her success, he would never overestimate a Britney album, in fact he has "Oops I did it again" at 18million units worldwide (The lowest estimation for the album out there).

So there must be a logical reason about his "Blackout" estimation of 310K units in the UK. It should get updates to Platinum soon.

        • Does anyone have the last confirmed figure to hand? I vaguely remember seeing 287,000 a few years back.

I had it at 296,000 units a few years back. But I think all of them were estimations. I don't remember the UK charts ever revealing official numbers for "Blackout".

              I've found the source.

MTV Classic in September 2015 counted down her top albums and singles and Blackout had sales confirmed at 296,000.

I doubt it's sold 14,000 copies in the last year.

Last update for Blackout was 275,143 (Jun 2009).

                August 2015 - 296,000.

Assuming 21,000 sales in 6 years - the vast majority of that sum would've been in the 2-3 years following the album release.

Yeah, it definately didn't sell that in one year, but MjDangerous is not dumb, he must have a reason for his estimation, maybe the 296K figure is a dated number MTV copied and used? Who knows.

Either way the album is extremely close to Platinum, and in 2017 the album will celebrate its 10th anniversary, hopefully they prepare something special for the album's anniversary and re-release it on vynil, remaster it with additional songs that originally didn't make the cut and remixes, etc and prepare an aggressive discount for it. I doubt they're efficient enough to do something amazing, but I hope they plan something for its 10th anniversary as it is basically her most cult-followed / legendary record.

                    • Doesn't MJD work with shipments? Maybe that's why it's like 14-10k higher

Yep, out of those 21,000 sales probably the 80% (16,800) sold in the further 2-3 years (2010, 2011, 2012) which means from 2014 - 2015 the album sold an average of 2,100 per year reaching 296,000 by 2015.

This probably means that the album sales could have risen up to 298,000 this year, which is extremely close to Platinum. I really believe the album can finally get its much awaited Platinum certification by 2017 just on time for its anniversary.

                        • If you guys include streaming then blackout has probably passed 300k if it had 296,000 pure then it probably has enough streams to pass 300k

                          • It seems that whatever you look at it "Blackout" is over 300K units in UK.

                            * The pure sales are so extremely close to Platinum that its pretty certain Blackout has a shipment over the 300K mark, and it'd be matter of the label to contact BPI for a Platinum certification.

                            * UK started to include streams into the totals, so with so close to Platinum pure sales its likely that adding the Streaming units the album total already rose to 300K being eligible for a certification update.

                            * The pure sales are so close to 300K that it could reach the total by its own in pure sales eventually.

"Blackout" is likely to get certified Platinum soon.

                              • My only wish this year has combined streams of 66,000,000 streams which makes 441,000 SPS sales so approximately 1,700,000 SPS sales worldwide, with 1,300,000 being pure!

Hopefully next year it will pass 2 million globally

The 3rd biggest female act he's analyzed and the 2nd Biggest he's reviewed from her generation (behind Eminem)

                                  From her generation (so far):

                                  1. Eminem - 147,086,000
                                  2. Britney Spears - 96,942,000
                                  3. Coldplay - 83,237,000

                                  9. Alicia Keys - 44,435,000

P!nk, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera haven't been analyzed yet but I think P!nk will pull a similar total to Beyonce, and Xtina and Justin won't be close to Britney at all.

I think its pretty safe to say no other act from her generation (besides Eminem) will top her anytime soon.

                                    36. Amy Winehouse - 26,280,000
                                    37. The Weeknd - 17,215,000

The 3rd biggest female act he's analyzed and the 2nd Biggest he's reviewed from her generation (behind Eminem)

                                    From her generation (so far):

                                    1. Eminem - 147,086,000
                                    2. Britney Spears - 96,942,000
                                    3. Coldplay - 83,237,000
                                    4. Linkin Park - 74,119,000
                                    5. Beyonce - 61,702,000
                                    6. Norah Jones - 49,393,000
                                    7. Maroon 5 - 47,286,000
                                    8. Destiny's Child - 45,163,000

I agree. Britney will stay as the second best selling artist of her generation in terms of physical album sales.

Im shocked and find it unbelievable that u2 outsold Celine?

                                    Fine.

Celine should outsell U2 next year with her upcoming english album. How i wish whitney and mariah will be analyzed next cos im sure Celine sold more in album sales.

Great, she's the top female from her generation in terms of both pure sales and SPS. Eminem's numbers are insane.

Does anyone know how much Work Bitch has sold in the UK with streaming? The 141k figure that leaked last year was fake unfortunately, but it might be around or close to that number. Assuming it has gotten 3 or 4 million UK streams since January 1st, 2014 = 30,000/40,000 chart sales. Pure sales are around 90,000.

Yay! I'm pleased it cracked the top 100! I feel like if she was to belatedly release a video to this for her fans, even just one of her and her sons and family filmed at Christmas to look like it was done on an old camcorder then this could legitimately start to chart on various world charts in future years!

That means she got 81,000 sales from spotify alone and another 33,000 from YouTube so she got 114,000 sales this season from streams probably 30k PURE so estimating 144,000 sales this year
