I think MJD is a great estimator, and if he has deflated some of his artists' estimations, he has his own reasons. By the end of the day, all of us are just estimators. We don't really know what our favs' albums really sold, so we can't say that other's estimations are not as close to reality than our own. Besides, while MJD did deflate some of Britney and Celine's album sales, i find that he slightly inflated some of their single sales as well. Not everyone is perfect, but being conservative is nothing wrong.
Regarding Britney's album sales, I think 80m should be the consensus. The only massive deflation MJD has on Britney is on Oops I Did It Again (Album), which I believe should be in the 19,5-20m range. Moreover, I think that Femme Fatale should be upgraded as well. MJD has it's US shipments at 850K, but it is certified Platinum, so the 1,7m figure should be upgraded to closer to 1,9m. Also, we should round up Circus to 4m, as I believe it will reach there in a matter of time. 24m and 10,5m is OK for BOMT and Britney. All in all, Instinct's estimation should be the consensus. 80m albums and 100m+ singles, totaling to over 180m records sold for the biggest selling female artist of her generation.
