I think MJD is a great estimator, and if he has deflated some of his artists' estimations, he has his own reasons. By the end of the day, all of us are just estimators. We don't really know what our favs' albums really sold, so we can't say that other's estimations are not as close to reality than our own. Besides, while MJD did deflate some of Britney and Celine's album sales, i find that he slightly inflated some of their single sales as well. Not everyone is perfect, but being conservative is nothing wrong.

Regarding Britney's album sales, I think 80m should be the consensus. The only massive deflation MJD has on Britney is on Oops I Did It Again (Album), which I believe should be in the 19,5-20m range. Moreover, I think that Femme Fatale should be upgraded as well. MJD has it's US shipments at 850K, but it is certified Platinum, so the 1,7m figure should be upgraded to closer to 1,9m. Also, we should round up Circus to 4m, as I believe it will reach there in a matter of time. 24m and 10,5m is OK for BOMT and Britney. All in all, Instinct's estimation should be the consensus. 80m albums and 100m+ singles, totaling to over 180m records sold for the biggest selling female artist of her generation.

^ I think he estimated well all of her albums except "Oops I did it again" which was the one he underestimated the most.

There were some minor / little underestimation (but no big deal) on "Britney" which IMO is around 11m (not 10,5m) and "Britney Jean" which is over 650K (not 600K) I would even say that 700K wouldn't be out of reach.

I think most underestimate her success in Latin America. Many probably don't know that "Britney Jean" sold / shipped 100K in Latin America alone.

Glory officially debuts at #2 in Brazil (#1 international), #5 in Argentina, and #5 in Mexico (also #1 international)

So now we're only missing Britney Jean, since I doubt there's a lot of information for albums released before this decade.

                    Others/Album Tracks – 5,100,000

                    Total: 103 million

I think he did a great job, however Ooh La La and My Only Wish make 0 sense to me. Way too high. And I think he underestimated Circus (it's around 6.5m) and Pretty Girls (closer to 600k, it definitely outsold Perfume).

I always hear Britney's Christmas song "My Only Wish" every Christmas season here in the Philippines. I love the song.

Does anyone knows how many albums Britney has sold in South America? I've heard she's one the biggest artists there. According to MJD (who you all think give deflated estimations), Britney's album sales in the 3 biggest market in South America are:

                                Argentina: 515,000
                                Brazil: 1,185,000
                                Mexico: 1,290,000
                                Total: 2,990,000

Almost 3m from the 3 biggest markets! However, MJD has some blanks for some of her albums, so the total should be higher than this. I'm very impressed with Mexico! Can't believe she sold more albums there than Brazil, when Brazil is the bigger music market!

What about the whole continent? I've heard that she sold 6m albums, but based on this info (though deflated a little, so let's upgrade it to 3,5m), and the fact that other South American markets are pretty small, I'd hazard to say she sold around 1-1,5m for the rest of the markets, making a total of 4-5m albums sold. Very impressive!

Having over 80 million pure album sales is great

I'm sure if we added SPS sales she may be at 90 million!

I was looking into Britney's digital sales yesterday and noticed that we were underestimating some of her catalog, particularly her 1999-2004 singles.

I had estimated 300,000 for Stronger, but that was actually quite underestimated imo

                                      August 2010: 189,000
                                      January 2011: 211,000
                                      June 2012: 270,000

From August 5, 2010 to January 20, 2011 (5 months and a half): 22,000 (average of 4k copies per month)
                                      From January 20, 2011 to June 5, 2012 (1 year, 4 months and a half): 59,000 (average of 3.5k copies per month)

Using an average of 3.5k for the remaining 7 months of 2012 = 24k/294k sold as of 2012. Using an average of 3k for 2013 = 36k/330k sold as of 2013. Using an average of 2k for 2014 = 24k/354k sold as of 2014. Using an average of 1k for 2015 (digital sales going down and all) = 12k in 2015/366k sold as of 2015. Using an average of 750 for 2016 (10 months so far) = 7,500/373k in total, which we can round to 370k to be safe. 370k digital copies is pretty amazing for a third single from a 2000 album!

I did the same with her other singles and got the following results:

                                      Sometimes - 120,000
                                      Crazy - 185,000
                                      I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman - 190,000
Overprotected - 75,000 (I've always been curious, does this include the remix?)
                                      MATM - 340,000
                                      Stronger - 370,000
                                      Lucky - 330,000
                                      Slave - 655,000
                                      Oops - 655,000
                                      BOMT - 755,000
                                      Everytime - 630,000

I have a question regarding Femme Fatale. MJD estimates it has shipped 850,000 in the US, 150k less than its RIAA shipment. Is he underestimating it or could it be that they shipped it some of it back?
