TYLER VS. KHALED: SONY'S TITLE BOUT

Two new Sony releases are duking it out for the top spot on our next chart. Columbia’s Tyler, The Creator currently enjoys the advantage over We The Best/Epic’s DJ Khaled. Tyler’s “Earfquake” is the #1 track at Spotify U.S. and Apple Music, while Khaled has six tracks on the latter service’s Top 10, including the #2 and #3 songs. Here’s what the state of play looks like:

Tyler, The Creator (Columbia) 145-170k total activity, 45-65k album
                    DJ Khaled (We The Best/Epic) 110-135k, 20-30k

You’ll notice lots of Apple real estate devoted to Khaled, whose new Father of Asahd set features an array of guest stars. His highest-streaming tracks so far are “Wish Wish” f/Cardi B & 21 Savage and “Higher” f/John Legend and the late Nipsey Hussle. Another track, “Just Us” f/SZA (currently Top 10 at Apple), has just gone to radio. This is Khaled’s highest-charting song at Spotify U.S., at #36.

Tyler’s IGOR album has another track in the Spotify Top 10 (“I Think” at #8) and a gaggle of songs bubbling just under the Top 15. “Earfquake” is also Top 10 on the Spot’s Global chart.

Khaled and Tyler have the #1 and #2 spots, respectively, on the iTunes album chart. None of their tracks are in the Top 10 there.

How will this grudge match evolve in the coming days? Stay tuned.

DJ Khaled’s Father Of Asahd Is This Week's No. 1 Album

                      May 27, 2019 by FYI Staff 0

It’s a big week for new releases, with five debuting in the top ten–including two at the top of the chart.
DJ Khaled’s Father Of Asahd debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart with 8,800 total consumption units, despite not topping any of the metrics used to compile the list. The celebrity producer and rapper achieves the second highest audio-on-demand streams, and digital song download and the sixth highest album sales totals for the week. It is his first chart-topping album in Canada, surpassing the No. 2 peak of his last release, 2017’s Grateful.

DJ Khaled planning monster lawsuit against Billboard Chart
                                    By Page Six Team June 10, 2019 | 9:01am

DJ Khaled is poised to hit the Billboard Chart with a monster lawsuit alleging the organization unfairly disqualified more than 100,000 sales of “Father of Asahd,” robbing him of the No. 1 spot.

Khaled was furious when his album came in at No.  2 to Tyler, the Creator’s “IGOR,” after Billboard allegedly discounted downloads sold by the DJ and producer as part of a “bundle deal” with an energy drink. Bundle deals, which offer album downloads alongside merchandise, are a standard but controversial industry practice to boost sales.

We’re told Billboard had agreed it would count downloads from Khaled’s energy drink package, which sources in the artist’s camp say amounted to more than 100,000. Billboard later backtracked, disqualifying Khaled’s entire sales from the promotion, arguing there were “anomalies” in his figures. Page Six has exclusively learned that lawyers for Khaled have fired off a letter to Silvio Pietroluongo, SVP of charts and data development at Billboard.

A DJ Khaled source said, “When Khaled’s team tried to appeal, Billboard refused to budge.” The source said the situation was all the more unjust because Tyler, the Creator’s bundle deal figures were included in his total sales. On May 30, Billboard announced Tyler debuted at No. 1 with 165,000 albums sold, with Khaled at No. 2 at 137,000. Not fair, argues Khaled’s team.

Page Six exclusively reported a few days ago that Khaled had a tense meeting with Sylvia Rhone, chairman and CEO of his label Epic, over the matter. The source explained, “Khaled was frustrated his label didn’t fight harder for his bundle sales to be included.”

A Billboard source disputed that 100,000 DJ Khaled sales were disqualified but admitted an undisclosed number of his sales were ruled out because “there were strange anomalies in the data,” adding that the decision was based on chart rules following talks with Khaled’s management, Sony Records and Nielsen. Billboard announced it has reviewed its rules allowing artists to bundle albums with merch and will outline a new policy for 2020.

Reps for DJ Khaled didn’t comment, and Billboard also declined to comment.

                                    • I will be happy If Billboard ends once and for all this “bundle” thing. It is already hard to comprehend a fair chart with different factors like pure sales and streaming so now people can manipulate them selling cans of shitty drinks, sweaters or cheap t-shirts. Anyway, his album is not even good, it has 0 hits.

Where are this era’s “Wild Thoughts” and “I’m the one”, sir?
