Whether that will be enough to top the weekend box office remains to be seen as we're expecting a similar three-day gross from A Star is Born.

The drama from WB exploded on the scene last weekend and should hold on much better than Venom over its second weekend. Right now we're looking for A Star is Born to drop around 30% or so this weekend, which would result in a $30 million three-day. Should our forecast hold we're expecting the film to top $95 million by the end of the weekend.

This weekend's forecast is directly below.

        Venom (4,250 theaters) - $30.5 M
        A Star is Born (3,708 theaters) - $30.0 M

        First Man (3,640 theaters) - $21.0 M
        Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (3,521 theaters) - $16.0 M
        Smallfoot (3,606 theaters) - $9.1 M
Bad Times At The El Royale (2,808 theaters) - $9.0 M”

Thursday, October 11 Update: Taking into account the holds of A Star Is Born and Venom over the past two days, we’re revising our earlier weekend forecast to now position the former in first place for a frame that could easily see a photo finish between the two hit films.
The Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga smash retained an excellent 10.4 percent of its weekend gross with Wednesday’s $4.59 million take, besting the 8.7 percent Wednesday retention of Gone Girl compared to its first weekend. The latter film eased just 29.6 percent in its sophomore frame.

        Weekend Forecast (Revised):

It will be close… Let's see.
It would be nice if the film can get the #1 as well…

Shame that Shallow couldn't hold on to its top five placing, but another top ten in the singles chart is of course fantastic, and very unexpected.

                                        • Sales:

The Ohio duo were on automatic pilot and set to land atop the album chart for the first time but crash land at No.2 on consumption of 29,835 copies of their fifth studio set Trench (including 4,651 from sales-equivalent streams). They led the chart flashes all week but were overhauled at the last by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s Motion Picture Cast Recording of A Star Is Born, which opens at No.1 on consumption of 31,816 units, including 6,178 from sales-equivalent streams.

It is the first time 45-year-old Cooper, better known as an actor, has had a chart album, and marks a return to prominence (and fourth No.1) for Gaga, whose last album, Joanne, debuted and peaked at No.3 on sales of 26,694 copies almost exactly two years ago, and has gone on to sell 143,315 copies, less than a 20th of the 2,995,891 copies that her 2008 debut The Fame has sold across all editions. This is the second time that an A Star Is Born soundtrack has topped the chart – Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson’s 1977 take on the tale had a soundtrack which took 13 weeks to reach the summit.

Lady Gaga adds to her tally of Top 10 singles for the first time since 2013, with Bradley Cooper collaboration Shallow jumping 13-6 (36,952 sales). It is taken from their chart-topping A Star Is Born soundtrack, which also spawns two debuts this week, namely I’ll Never Love Again (No.35, 13,021 sales) – another Gaga/Cooper collaboration – and Gaga solo Always Remember Us This Way (No.39, 11,029 sales). All three songs are heavily dependent on paid-for sales which, at 12,384, 4,936 and 4,339 respectively, places them first, 9th and 10th in the paid-for sales rankings. Gaga has now had 12 Top 10 hits and 25 Top 75 hits. Cooper was previously uncharted.

Specially when it missed the Top 5 for 389 copies (units)... :(

It has fallen to #2 on iTunes because of the new Little Mix single, but it has climbed to #9 on Spotify UK today... so who knows, maybe it can even have a new peak next week.

Anyway, at least it was a new Top 10 for her which is a hit.
