Lady Gaga's 'A Star Is Born' Has Now Sold Over One Million Actual Copies In The U.S.
This week, the A Star Is Born soundtrack holds at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, earning yet another frame close to the top of the tally. The popular record was back at No. 1 just a few turns ago, when it returned to the throne on the all-genre albums listing after months away thanks to a surge in popularity after both the Grammys and Oscars. The soundtrack has turned out to be a surprisingly successful release, and it has just passed an important, and somewhat rare, sales milestone.
The Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper-fronted collection of original material has just blown past one million pure sales, which is something very few albums are able to do these days. According to Nielsen Music, A Star Is Born has now sold 1,002,611 copies in the U.S. alone, making it the rare recent release that is able to actually sell over a million copies. Many titles are able to shift at least a million units, and sometimes several million, when including streams, but as sales drop every year, even some of the biggest figures have a difficult time making it to seven digits.
A Star Is Born is the bestselling album yet again this week, which the title manages frequently, even though it’s already been out for months. This time around, it sold just under 16,000 copies—four times as many actual copies as this week’s No. 1 album, Juice WRLD’s Death Race for Love, which is pushed to the top thanks to huge streaming numbers.
Amazingly, A Star Is Born has been able to sell over one million copies in under half a year, which shows how incredibly well it has performed week after week. The title has spent four frames at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and in the months since it first dropped, it hasn’t fallen far from the peak position.
A Star Is Born and its singles first enjoyed excellent and noteworthy rides on various Billboard charts when the movie was released last fall to commercial and critical success. The intense promotional campaign kept the music on people’s minds, and millions either purchased a copy of the album, bought some of the singles, or streamed it repetitively. Just as it looked like the tunes penned specifically for the film might begin to finally drift away, Gaga and Cooper began to win awards for their work, which breathed new life into the entire collection.
First, the two won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for duetting on “Shallow,” while the songwriters (including Gaga, but not Cooper) also took home Best Song Written for Visual Media in the same evening. A few days later, the pop superstar and her co-writers took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song as well. Those high-profile wins would probably be enough to spur a huge sales bump, but performances of “Shallow” at both the Grammys and the Oscars (with the latter being perhaps the best moment of the entire evening) brought the ballad to the attention of millions who might not otherwise have heard it…and that boosted sales yet again.
With award season in the rearview mirror and Gaga and Cooper moving on to other projects, promotion of the soundtrack has stalled, but that doesn’t mean it’s about to vanish. It’s likely that A Star Is Born will hold on for weeks, if not months, selling well every frame. How much longer will it live inside the top 10? That’s tough to tell, but with one million copies already sold, the record must be considered a huge win for all involved by every metric.

Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper's 'A Star Is Born' Soundtrack Passes 1 Million in U.S. Sales
Gaga tallies her fourth million-selling album and first since 2011.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack surpasses 1 million copies sold in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. Star sold 16,000 copies in the tracking week ending March 21, bringing the soundtrack’s cumulative sales sum to 1,003,000 after 24 weeks.
Gaga earns her fourth million-selling album, and her first to reach the million mark since May 2011, when Born This Way launched with 1.11 million sold in its first week. Born This Way has sold 2.43 million in total.
Gaga’s other million sellers: The Fame (4.83 million) and The Fame Monster (1.65 million).
The most recently released album before A Star Is Born to sell a million was another soundtrack: The Greatest Showman. It was released on Dec. 8, 2017 and reached the million mark in its 23rd week of release. Its total sales now stand at 1,682,000.
A Star Is Born has spun off the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Shallow," which became Gaga's fourth leader on the list (and Cooper's first). She had last reigned with "Born This Way" in 2011.
A Star Is Born continues to be the top-selling album of 2019, with 298,000 copies sold. Just five albums have cleared 100,000 copies sold so far this year. Comparatively, at this point a year ago (week ending March 22, 2018), 10 albums had each sold 100,000 copies, with The Greatest Showman leading the pack with 624,000 sold.

So the biggest outtake of this article is that TFM counts as an album
Also a bit shocked ARTPOP didn't sell a million.I have received many gifts from God,
but this is the first time I have ever received a gift from a goddess.
