  • It is not necessary for Katy to come back, she has enjoyed enough success for the most important age decade for Pop stars(20s). It is just she can’t connect with modern listeners for various reasons.

Exactly but still very impressed that she was fourteenth most streamed female of 2020 on global Spotify. Amazing.

      • Her golden days have clearly ended since 2014. In 6 years she managed to put only one single in the Top 10 on the Hot 100, which only made it into the Top 10 due to the song's performance at the Grammys on its release week.

Kworb is predicting 45K for the songs first week (with the GRAMMYs boost not factored in).
Wow, unbelievable. If the single didn't have GRAMMYs promotion first week it would legit be the biggest flop debut ever for a major artists Pop lead single.
After the song's performance at the Grammy, kworb's prediction for the song's pure sales debut rose to 109k, proving that without that performance, her last song to enter the Hot 100 Top 10 would be Dark Horse, 6 years ago.

        https://kworb.net/cc/archive/us/20170216.html

Unless she buys Spotify, she will never have another Top 10 on the Hot 100. Maybe she will be able to have a single with a decent amount of streams on Spotify in the future if she puts the song with 100m reach on Spotify for 3 months and keep the song’s reach with over 40M for an entire year, in addition to including a vertical video on TTH to duplicate streams like she did with NRO, but getting another hit on the Hot 100, coming from an album that spent just 4 weeks on the BB200? I find this incredibly unlikely...

        • Wow...
So not even on Christmas Day some of you are able to leave all these stupid stan wars aside.

You all better move on, please, before I lock this thread and I start giving some infractions...

NRO has great recurrent streams, the majority of its streams came after it left TTH. That’s how streaming works in the long-run. You put a song #1 on TTH, but it could still flop on the long run and have very Bad recurrent streams(e.g. Small Talk).

NRO had good recurrent streams due to it being sponsored for a full year to be above 40M reach on Spotify. During that time, this song used to make 500-600k streams a day, and that changed dramatically when they had to decrease that song's reach from 40M to 20M to invest in Daisies.

Nowadays this song is doing less than 300k streams a day

              Spotify [12/23/2020]

              Never Really Over – 290k

And that's with the impact of the nteotw video.

              • NRO is probably elegible for platinum at this point - Katy should really have promoted it when it was released, could have done even better.

                    • According to chartdata, NRO sold 500k units in the US in 9.5 months, so I think this song will not be eligible for 2x P in the US until mid-2022.

It was certified Gold on August 7th, just over two months after its release. So it sold another million between then and chartmasters tweet that you posted.

I agree. It's streams were excellent. IT just showed that with the right song she can still have a decent sized hit. I mean it was just last year. Personally I thought Daisies did decently. I know it dropped on week 2 pretty dramatically but it did hang around the top 80 for six weeks and peaked at 40. It didn't completely bomb like HIH or ST.
