  • The UK's Official Top 20 biggest selling love ballads of all time

5: I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston

The highest lady on our love ballad countdown is the late, great Whitney Houston. Taken from the hugely successful soundtrack of the hit movie The Bodyguard, in which Houston starred, I Will Always Love You spent 10 weeks at the top was 1992's Official Christmas Number 1.

It's well known the song was a cover of a Dolly Parton track that never charted in the UK. Two further versions have made the Top 40: a dance reinterpretation by Sarah Washington hit Number 12 in 1993, and Pop Idol finalist Rik Waller went Top 10 with his rendition in 2002. Whitney's still the one to beat, though: her version has sold 1.63 million copies.

Price adjustments and Valentine's Day gift-buying means that four Sony Music catalogue items that were among the top five in the budget album chart last week now return to the main artist album chart. They are The Ultimate Collection (No.18, 4,360 sales) by Whitney Houston.

                            • The Temptations, Michael Jackson & Mary J. Blige Rule First-Ever All-Time R&B/Hip-Hop Rankings

For the first time, Billboard has compiled extensive all-time chart recaps of R&B/hip-hop music, ranking the genre's top artists, songs and albums over the past six decades (see chart methodology below).
Jackson's landmark LP Thriller leads the all-time albums recap, having spent a record 37 weeks at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in 1983-84. The Black Eyed Peas' 2009 set The E.N.D. ranks at No. 2 and Jackson's Off the Wall, from 1979, places at No. 3. Capping the top five are Whitney Houston's self-titled 1985 debut (No. 4) and M.C. Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em (No. 5), the top rap album.

METHODOLOGY: The Greatest of All-Time Top R&B/Hip-Hop Artists, Songs and Albums rankings are based on weekly performance on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (from its Oct. 20, 1958 inception through Feb. 25, 2017) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (from its Jan. 30, 1965 inception through Feb. 25, 2017). Songs and Albums are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower spots earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates over various periods. Artists are ranked based on a formula blending performance, as outlined above, of all their Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart entries.

                                          • Official Top 20 Biggest Selling Singles Of All Time By Female Artists

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we reveal the UK’s Official Top 40 biggest singles by female artists of all time.

Today (March 8) marks International Women’s Day – the annual celebration of the economic, political, and social achievements of women across the globe.

If there’s one thing the Official Singles Chart would be pretty dull without, it’s female singers, and to honour the musical achievements of women, we are counting down the UK’s Official Top 20 biggest selling singles of all time by female artists.

Behind Cher is another celebrated voice – the late, great Whitney Houston. Whitney, who passed away in February 2012, spent a whopping ten weeks at Number 1 with I Will Always Love You, taken from the soundtrack of hit movie The Bodyguard. The track, which was written and originally recorded by country star Dolly Parton, has sold 1.63 million copies in the UK alone.
