  • Today Waterloo will reach 200 million streams on Spotify, as it takes only around 53k yet (its daily streams are approx 150k). It's ABBA's 7th song to do so.

    • ABBA Gold is 30 today!

      Happy Birthday!

How about updated sales figures especially from the USA, Sweden, France, Germany, Netherlands.

      • Wow, 30 years of 'ABBA Gold'! Who could have predicted back in 1992 that this album would reach number one in the UK in 3 different years (1992, 1999 and 2008), become the UK's second best-selling album of all time and the first one to reach 1000 weeks on the UK album charts.

Not that long ago this year, I provided up to date sales in the US. But for France, Germany and the Netherlands we can only estimate.Unfortunatly.

              #89(61) Voyage

Safe to say, Voysge's sales are very low.

              • From the OCC,

                CHART FACT OF THE WEEK

ABBA's iconic, record-breaking Gold: Greatest Hits has turned 30 years old.
It was the first album to achieve 1,000 weeks on the Official Albums Chart, and is the second-best selling album of all time in the UK.

                • Voyage is the first ABBA studio album to sell more in France than in Sweden. Shock.

It has sold more in France than Japan, Australia and Canada combined.

Compared to Germany and UK, not so well of course - like all ABBA albums. But compared to other countries, Voyage has done really well in France.

'Waterloo' passed the mark of 200 million, and 'Dancing Queen' will surpass 800 million streams tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Next month, 'Slipping Through My Fingers' will very likely overtake both 'One of Us' and 'Thank You for the Music'.
'Angeleyes' will also surpass 1, 2 or maybe even 3 songs.

                          • Interesting to see those streaming figures both total and monthly.

The Angeleyes novelty still going. Real gap now between GGG and Mamma Mia for 2nd place. The latter losing ground in latest month increase.

Nice to see SOS and LAYLOM doing well.

Gold sold 5, 733 last week. So the extra CD, Vinyl, Cassette editions not really amounting to much in sales. I guess the previous week when it was #11 its sales were about 4,000.

A slight rebound for Voyage in the sales and physical charts. At its level of sales just a small change can produce big jumps or drops in the charts.

                              • 30 years ago this week, 'ABBA Gold' entered the UK Albums Chart at number 1. Here is the complete top 10 from that week:

                                Official Albums Chart Top 75
                                27 September 1992 - 03 October 1992

                                https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...19920927/7502/

The only albums that have been in the top 75 both that week and this week (30 years later) are 'ABBA Gold' and 'Bob Marley's Legend'.
If you extend this week's album chart from a top 75 to a top 100 then you can add Nirvana's 'Nevermind' (at no. 85 this week and at no.17 back in 92).

                                • In Germany GOLD rose from #53 to #22 in its 416th week.

It re-entered dutch charts at #20 and makes the 100 weeks chart-appearance full there.

In Sweden it hit the physical charts (not the main album charts) again at #17.

A moderate climbing from #15 to #14 in its 715th week in Ireland.

Voyage is nowhere placed in the charts of the countries mentioned above.

                                    • ^ Yes. I made this point sometime ago and asked why it was.

I understand older albums are excluded from the French charts, for example.

But why are there so many Best Ofs in the UK chart - and as you say high up in the Top 20?

Is it because in other countries
                                      A) Older albums excluded
                                      B) Less favourable streaming Ratios for Best Ofs
                                      C) The Brits simply love their legacy acts and Greatest Hits albums.

                                          • [QUOTE=Nameless;n10995436]^ Yes. I made this point sometime ago and asked why it was.

I’m not sure exactly why it is. I haven’t looked at other charts other than the US and they seem
to have quite a few hits albums too. I think a lot of the old music people are realising is amazing and timeless. It sticks in your head in a way that modern music doesn’t.

Voyage re-enters swedish physical charts at #10. But that's not enough to leave a trace within the main Top 60.
