        • Some (updated) information on Metallica album sales in Finland.

          See: http://ifpi.fi/tilastot/myydyimmat/kaik ... /albumit/0

Copies of albums sold at the end of 2008:

          - Black Album : 112856 (2x Platinum)
The album was at 102834 at the end of 2007, so a bit more than 10000 copies were sold in 2008.
(in 2007 almost 14578 copies were sold from this one!)

          - Death Magnetic: 79415 (2x Platinum)
          (see DM thread)

          - Master Of Puppets: 57647 (Platinum)
At the end of 2007, this album was at 49200. So almost 8500 copies sold last year. Platinum certification is new!

          - ...And Justice For All: 51051 (Platinum)
Platinum certification is also new here!

          (Probably) not updated numbers:

          - Load : 64384 (Platinum)
          - Reload: 45271 (Platinum)
          - St. Anger: 35725 (Platinum)
          - Garage Inc.: 27446 (Gold)
          - S & M: 22831 (Gold)

          Slightly off-topic...

          DVD:

          - The Videos 1989-2004: 16033 (Platinum)
This DVD was at 12300 by the end of 2007. Total sold in 2008 would be 3733 then.
          - Cunning Stunts: 6376 (Gold) (updated?)

          Singles:

          - Garage Days: 6000 (dates probably from 1987)

MJDangerous just pointed out that these Finnish numbers are based on shipments, not sales...

            I didn't know that - sorry!

Finnish Certifications are based on shipments, but the figures quoted by you are the sales figures, the site clearly mentions that.

So where are we at in RIAA terms? Death Magnetic will soon go 2xPlatinum, the black album is overdue an award for 15xPlatinum, ReLoad is due an award for 4xPlatinum and Kill 'Em All is probably ready for 3xPlatinum. Where do the other 3 fit in?

Yes, Metallica and Re-Load are both overdue. Death Magnetic should reach 2xp later this year and the rest of them (KEM, RTL, MOP & AJFA) are all closing in on their next platinum disc as well.

Off chart, Garage Inc is overdue another platinum disc and S&M is pretty close too.
So at best these 9 titles could gain another platinum disc this year! (3 overdue and 6 maybe)

Take a look at old page in this thread, there are 3 that definitely deserves for new cert, black album, Reload and Garace, all of these 3 are overdue.

And there are 4 with possibility because there close to the new cert,Ride, Master, AJFA and Kill em all
Death M has to wait until reach 1.8 or 1.9 M in Soundscan I guess.

However I doubt about new cert, because the contract with recording company has been terminated.

When you look at the pictures, it seems that "S&M" + "Garage Inc." are not included...

ReLoad will probably be the next one. That album has sold 4 million in the US but it's still listed as 3 x platinum. Don't know about anything else after that.

MJDangerous just pointed out that these Finnish numbers are based on shipments, not sales...

                                                              I didn't know that - sorry!
Finnish Certifications are based on shipments, but the figures quoted by you are the sales figures, the site clearly mentions that.
Sorry to be so late, I missed that message first. The site may mention that, but all figures refer to shipment, just like European IFPI pretend their figures are about sales, while they are all about shipment. There are several evidences of this on the Finnish site, like the massive figures printed on it after 1 or 2 days of sales (last Metallica album is the best example), or the fact that all supposed 'sales figures' are always higher than certifications, which wouldn't be the case if they were really figures of sales instead of shipment, especialy after the release.
