MJ have a very good work here, to me the sales number is reasonable, not to high or to low.
But I wonder how could he collect all the data?

All figures are my estimates. I used certifications, sales data and chart runs. I have the chance of noting easily undercertified albums in each country since I looked for runs/certifications of almost all artists, which is more than useful to estimate properly all albums. I last updated those figures about 1 year ago, which isn't irrevelant when it is about such a catalog seller as Metallica. They sold loads of copies in Finland last year for example.

Metallica on the Catalog chart is still at 14xp.

It's doubtful they will re-certify any albums.

It's doubtful they will re-certify any albums.
                            That sucks
It would be the decent thing to do...
Yeah that sucks, I am very upset. Dane, do you think that because of label switch from elektra to warner bross?although as far as I know elektra is under warner groups.

In previous page, I have discussed it with Dane, and all the first 5 metallica album except AJFA has a good change to new certification plus Reload, Garage, S&M, and the new one, Death Magnetic. In very optimistic case, AJFA got new one, and DM 2x platinum, the total would be 67, they could jump to number 12,pesimistic case, without AJFA and only 1x platinum for DM, the total 65.But, it seems like we have to wait, I don't know until when... damned elektra, they always very lazy with metallica, but very excited to recertified the eagles.

                                • Let's not forget that ReLoad (yeah, remember that album?) should be certified 4x Platinum as well. I guess we've forgotten that one amongst all this chatter about certifying the Black Album and all since it isn't that popular. But I have a special place in my heart for it.

Of Course I remember that album, it's a good album, although "metal fans" hate it.I think people talking about black album because it's good catalogue seller, with it's consistency we may expect that some day it would be certified 20x platinum (I don't for how long), should be 15 now and on the right track to become 16, in short term,1-2 years it will surpass Come On Over to become No 1 in Soundscan era
Recertifying, IMHO would give a "psychological promotion" for future buyers

Why didn't the record company ask for new certs for these last month when Death Magnetic was certified

Why didn't the record company ask for new certs for these last month when Death Magnetic was certified

A couple of the 80's albums are likely ready too...
that's what I thought Dane, I didn't know what's the problem, kinda hopeless wait for the cert update.

I don't know whether they wait till all '8O's album ready for new (saving money since the fee is $ 350 per cert, and only charge one times if they propose more than one album simultaneously)or another reason

                                            • This list isn't very correct. Use I & II shouldn't be added, or if we add them, so The Wall sold 52 million. Back In Black hasn't sold that much, Dark Side is the real #1. Fleetwood Mac are missing.

Maybe because those albums were released through Elektra and not Warner Brothers Records like Death Magnetic was?

I found some official sales figures for Metallica's first 5 (and truely monumental) albums in the booklet of Metallica's 1994 boxset 'Live sh*t: binge & purge'.

In this booklet you can see a fax message sent by 'Phonogram Intl.' to ?Metallica's management? (?or to Lars?) on May 17th 1993 at 9:48 AM...

First off, Metallica aka 'The Black Album' - sales until May 1993.

Cool! It doesn't show in mine, but I have the CD/DVD version, maybe you have the original?
Top Catalog Albums of the Soundscan era

                                                          Let there be rock!

Indeed, I do have the original one. (CD/VHS)

But I also own the CD/DVD version and on the backside of this box it says "Complete original 72-page full-color book included on DVD 2!"...

So I think you can find the same information overthere, Dane. (I've never checked it)
