Paul McCartney’s Wings Over America re-enters the chart at #22 with sales of 17,000.

The triple-disk live album (then credited to Wings) reached #1 in January 1977. It spawned a top 10 single, a live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed.” Wings Over America re-enters Top Catalog Albums at #1, displacing Daft Punk’s Discovery.

It’s McCartney’s third reissue to reach #1 on that chart. Band On The Run topped the catalog chart in March 1999 (also with sales of 17K). Ram topped the chart last May (also with sales of 17K).

                    • Billboard 200/Catalog Albums Chart Update - June 15, 2013

Wings Fly High: Paul McCartney & Wings' "Wings Over America" comes in at #1 (#22 Billboard 200) in its first week on the Catalog chart. Released at the end of 1976, this live collection reached #1 in the winter of 1977 and stayed on the chart for over a year and a half, a great achievement for a live album. It returns to the charts this week as a result of a special version being released.
It's the third album featuring Paul McCartney in some configuration to top the Catalog chart. "Band On The Run", also by Paul McCartney & Wings, topped the chart in 1999, and "Ram", by Paul & Linda McCartney, did so just a little over a year ago. McCartney thus becomes the tenth artist to top the Catalog chart three or more times, joining The Beatles (6), Michael Jackson and Chris Tomlin (4 each), and The Bee Gees, Michael Buble, Coldplay, Josh Groban, Mannheim Steamroller, and Pink Floyd (3 each). However, with just 20 total weeks on the Catalog chart, McCartney is by far the lowest among artists with three #1 albums; Chris Tomlin is next lowest with 78 total weeks.
"Wings Over America" is the third McCartney album to reach the top 40 sellers as a Catalog album, joining "Ram" (#24 in 2012) and "Band On The Run" (#29 in 2010). The 2010 run for "Band On The Run" only took it to #3 on the Catalog chart, behind "The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection (EP)" and Chris Tomlin's "Glory In The Highest: Christmas Songs Of Worship". "McCartney" (1970) and "McCartney II" (1980) reached #50 and #82, respectively, in 2011.
Counting his participation with The Beatles, Paul McCartney has been involved in nine #1 Catalog albums, the most for any artist.

Chart Milestone: Black Sabbath’s 13, last week’s #1 album on The Billboard 200, was the 1,000th album to reach #1 since Billboard introduced its now world-famous chart (as a top 10 listing) in March 1945.

To mark the occasion, here’s a list of a few “mosts” associated with the chart.

Most #1 albums: The Beatles (19).
Individual with the most #1 albums: Paul McCartney (26). This grand total consists of 19 Beatles albums, five with Wings and two by himself.
Individual with the most posthumous #1 albums: John Lennon (five). Lennon has topped the chart since his murder in 1980 with Double Fantasy (with Yoko Ono) and four Beatles compilations.
