    • AC/DC Scores Third Week Atop Euro Albums Chart
      By Paul Sexton, London

Billboard's new pan-European charts reveal a third week at the Top 100 Albums summit for AC/DC's "Black Ice" (Columbia/Sony BMG).

The Anglo-Australian rock band still has four No. 1 berths across Europe, in Germany, Denmark, Greece and the Belgian region of Flanders. "Ice" falls 1-2 in France, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Wallony and 1-4 in Hungary, but holds at No. 2 in Switzerland.

Still Top 3? That's just amazing, cos Australia is their native country, while in Japan it dropped down like a stone.

                        6. AC/DC, Black Ice, 105,000. The album dips from #2 to #6 in its fourth week. It has sold 1,320,000 copies to date. How does this compare to previous Wal-Mart exclusives? Glad you asked. After four weeks, Eagles' Long Road Out Of Eden had sold 1,452,000 copies; Garth Brooks' The Ultimate Hits had sold 860,000. (Eagles define mass appeal.)

                        Canada

Back here, AC/DC's "Black Ice" (21,000) dropped to No. 2, but has now surpassed the 200,000 mark in sales since its release last month.

                        • In non-teen, non-Idol news, AC/DC's Black Ice this week pulls ahead of Metallica's Death Magnetic (which has been out six weeks longer) as the year's #1 hard rock album. Black Ice is #5 for the year-to-date. Death Magnetic is #7. If Black Ice keeps up its pace, it will become the first mainstream hard rock album to wind up in the year-end top five in Nielsen/SoundScan history.

                            • I think a progression of the US sales next week is possible with Thanksgiving (around 150k). At the end of the year, the album will be around 2 million copies sold (against 2,5 million for the Eagles, last year).

Agreed! The Eagles album actually sold well over 300k week of thanksgiving/black friday last year. AC/DC wont, but I'm hoping for 200k.

(of course next week sales wont reflect black friday sales, it will be the 13-12-2008 chart)

I could continue to plow through the rest of the Top 200, but all you need to know is on the catalog chart.

The number three catalog record is Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Lost Christmas Eve. It sold 13,610 copies last week, for a cume of 1,615,997. That's more than AC/DC's Back In Black, which sold 10,640.

Meanwhile, Trans-Siberian's Christmas Eve & Other Stories is at number 10, moving 8,558, for a cume of 2,789,649.

                                      • AC/DC Holds On Atop Euro Albums Chart
                                        By Paul Sexton, London

The leaders of Billboard's pan-European charts each score another week at the top, with AC/DC's "Black Ice" (Columbia/Sony BMG) into a fourth week at No.1 on Top 100 Albums.

"Ice" not only retains its crown in Germany and Greece but regains two leads that it lost last week, rebounding 4-1 in Hungary and 2-1 in Sweden. It holds at No. 2 in Switzerland and the Belgian region of Wallony and No. 3 in France in Austria, but falls 1-2 in Denmark and Flanders, 2-3 in Norway, 3-6 in Italy and 9-11 in the United Kingdom.

However, I was hoping they would update some of the catalog albums too. Live and Live 2cd both need an update, maybe others too.

Oh, Back In Black 22xp isn't new of course.
