  • So, the 1st Queen Hits Album should have 19 UK BPI Awards - for Sales,
& perhaps a 20th Award for Shipments - as the LP is already 2 thirds of
    the way to a 20th Award. (19 X Platinum = 5,700,000).

The ABBA Album should have 17 Awards, as should The Beatles Album.

But, the BPI Awards for each of them are:,

    1) Queen - 11 - and the 11th was awarded in January 1992. (So, it is entitled to 8 or 9 more Awards)
    2) ABBA - 13 - And the 13th was awarded in February 2005. (So it really should have 4 more Awards)
    3) The Beatles - 0 - As The BPI did not start giving Awards until 1973. (So, it is entitled to 17 Awards)

Does anybody have the chart run for GH in 2013 and how many weeks it's spent inside the Top 100? Must be one of the best years for GH for a while I would think.

I'm still here, I'm OK. I still post, just not here. Nothing interesting to add, but I will see what I can bring in the next few weeks. Thanks for asking.

And thank you for the charts news, by the way.

                      • Wow, what happened with Queen On Fire? Last total I had was 105,000, from December 2010 (maybe it was related to the album version, not the DVD). This is a tremendous number for that DVD.

                            • Thank you for the link, Slightlymad. All very interesting. Everything matches very good what I would have guessed myself, but these are very valuable records.

In Germany, News Of The World was certified Gold (250,000) in 1978, reached 450,000 in March 1979 (according to Billboard) and eventually went Platinum (500,000) in 1990.

In Netherlands, A Day At The Races was indeed Platinum (100,000) in May 1977, after peaking at number 1 for 5 weeks. It is good to know it reached 120,000 in 1977. I know it shipped 13,037 copies between 1994 and February 2004 (an average of 1,300 a year). It is safe to assume it has sold some 200,000 in Netherlands.

                                • Just saw this on Kworb showing Queen's positions on iTunes in Canada - anyone know why its currently at number 1?

                                  Canada (45)

                                  Songs:

                                  266. We Will Rock You

                                  Albums:

                                  1. Queen: Greatest Hits
                                  203. Queen: Absolute Greatest
                                  330. Classic Queen

Queen also saw a slight rise on the UK album charts yesterday - Greatest Hits is now at 85 from 89 last week - the only sales figures we have are for the following 2 albums:

                                  57 Goo Goo Dolls 2,745
                                  95 ABBA 1,364

So Queen probably sold around 1,700?

Some great VHS's charts stats for Queen in Italy.

Not many people know this, but M&D used to run a monthly Music Video ranking back in the nineties (they staterted in April 1991):

                                      Some may be incomplete.

I wish I had these same details for other European countries from around that time.

These are really some amazing stats. But then again, Queen's chart success was great in Italy back then.

                                      All thanks to "me".

Great total for Queen On Fire

On another note Eagle Rock have announced the release of The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert on Bluray for September 2013, could be another good seller.
This is what there is for Queen On Fire this week:

                                            5 EGRO 48 QUEEN ON FIRE LIVE AT THE BOWL 194 55 125 1,425

                                            Probably just a reissue.

I didn't bother to check the Billboard topic last time, but this is what was actually listed three weeks ago:

                                            3 EGRO 20 26 40 QUEEN ON FIRE LIVE AT THE BOWL 196 (23) 254 738

It was on just 738 sales, not 254,738.

I knew there was something wrong there.

So the last total I posted still stands: the DVD had sold 105,000 by December 2010. By now, probably some 110,000. But not quite as much as 255,000. Still, good DVDs sales for Queen in the USA, no matter what.

                                            Apart from that:

                                            CHART: Top Hard Music Albums

                                            88 HOL 68 68 66 QUEEN GREATEST HITS 1,370 14 1,197 7,104,182
                                            1 HOL 90 QUEEN ICON 1,047 59 657 3,108

I don't think this Icon release was needed at all. I don't see the point.

Amazing sales for Bohemian Rhapsody indeed. Counting physical and digital sales, it has sold like a million in four different decades in the USA. More than 5 million overall (although hopefully Topicel won't read this last comment, lol).

                                                • From BPI,

From 19th July 2013, any album, single and music DVD that has passed a qualifying threshold for a Silver, Gold, Platinum or Multi-Platinum certification will now be automatically updated on the Official Charts Company’s database. These titles will also be updated in Music Week’s charts pages and be added to the BPI’s consumer-facing searchable database at http://www.bpi.co.uk.

The ‘auto-update’ will be based on sales as registered by the Official Charts Company (from 1994 onwards, when their records begin) and only applies to titles that have (a) not been previously certified or (b) are eligible for a certification upgrade based purely on sales from 1994 onwards. A retrospective ‘drop’ of missing titles has been conducted and a weekly sweep will occur going forward to maintain the integrity of the scheme.
Can we expect any new certifications for Queen, especially Greatest Hits I?

                                                  • This would be seriously interesting. If the BPI do their job then I am sure Queen will get a whole bunch of awards for CDs and DVDs. However, I think this sounds like more guff, same kind of rubbish you'd expect to here from the RIAA, IFPI or maybe even the european central bank.
