Let's remember that Abba's Gold didn't have any Various Artists albums as contenders because they were eliminated in 1989, whereas Queen did. So there is an advantage for them.

In "Official most weeks chart", Queen are also number 2, but below Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and ahead of Gold.

    • HUR -- I'm aware that 'Greatest Hits' by Queen had to contend with Various Artists Albums being allowed into the
UK Album Chart during the 1980's.

So - out of curiosity - I removed all of the Various Artists Albums from the Album Chart for that Decade. The Queen
Album gained an extra 27 Top 75 Weeks. Added to the 440 Top 75 Weeks that it already has, it has 467 Top 75 Weeks
under the 'Revised' method of counting. It is still 2nd to ABBA Gold's 475 Top 75 Weeks.

NOTE -- The Queen Album 'Section' on The OCC Site has too few Weeks for Queen's Greatest Hits.

      They should give it 502 Weeks. That's 440 Top 75 Weeks + 62 No.76 to No.100 Positions from when
      the entire Top 100 was counted. (W/E 8th August 1981 to W/E 7th January 1989).

Instead they give it 3 Entries that add up to 485 Weeks -- (Which is 17 Weeks too low).

      1981 -- 455 Weeks

      2011 -- 4 Weeks

      2012 -- 26 Weeks

      Total = 485 Weeks

I don't know why they have missed out its other 17 Chart Weeks.

They are missing from the 455 Weeks. The OCC should give it 472 Weeks for that entry.

      • Dear Zeus,

I know you know. I was just trying to make it clear to Slightly, who may not have been aware of that (I think a note is needed every time you post your lists, but it is up to you, so you choose).

Other than that, I'm fine with Gold being number 1 in your rankings, no problem. It would also be interesting to know how many Top 75/100 weeks would Gold and Greatest Hits have achieved if Various Artists albums had been included after 1989, but I guess it is impossible to know that.

Maybe Gold will outsell Gretaest Hits in the UK at some point, but I doubt Abba will ever outsell Queen, hehe.

          10. "Bohemian Rhapsody," Queen, 3.8 million

This wildly imaginative track, which combines operatic and hard-rock sections, was a top 10 hit twice. It reached #9 in April 1976 and #2 in May 1992 (after it was featured in the hit movie Wayne's World). As a result, it was both Queen's first and last top 10 hit. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus. (The Grammys didn't have separate categories for rock until 1979.) It was voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004. It originally appeared on the English band's fourth album, A Night at the Opera. The single was accompanied by a promotional video, elaborate for its time, which predated the arrival of MTV by nearly six years.

"Wildly imaginative". Great definition of Bohemian Rhapsody. It was on 3.7 million last November, so some 100,000 sold in three months.

I guess We Will Rock You would have been very close to making this list.

I know it's only a figure but at 1456 weeks Queen were the first act to reach a total of 28 years on the UK album chart, hopefully if they reach the magic 1500 weeks sometime this year then The Official Charts Company might present the band with some sort of award to recognise a huge achievement.

The New OCC Site has both Totals wrong for that Queen Album.

1)..... They give it 449 Top 75 Weeks. It should be 443 Top 75 Weeks.

2)..... They give it 663 Top 100 Weeks. It is over 6 Months too low. It is actually on 688 Top 100 Weeks.

(They also have the Top 100 Weeks wrong for 'ABBA Gold'. They say 699 Weeks. It is actually 701 Weeks).
