ALL THEY SING BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY: THE FILM ON THE QUEEN BACK TO THE BOX OFFICE
Bryan Singer's biopic goes out in the sing along version and recovers the record. The total is now 26.6 million.

It seems incredible, but almost two months after its release in Italian cinemas, the best collection of the day is still Bohemian Rhapsody, which yesterday with the sing along version has again achieved the record with 151 thousand euro, a figure that brings the its total to 26.6 million euros with 3.7 million spectators.

The performance of Bohemian Rhapsody, which received more than 800 million dollars (a milestone reached just yesterday) and which could close its race with 850 million, is also monstrous, given that it does not mention losing its share.

    Box Office Italia del 22/01/2019

    • From Music Week:

Who was the biggest singles artist in Q4? Ariana Grande? Post Malone? Drake?

Well, they all saw huge success, but no one had more songs in the quarter’s Top 200 as a lead artist than… Queen.

Queen’s original incarnation may have ended in 1991 with the tragic death of frontman Freddie Mercury. And loud guitars may barely feature anywhere else amongst the biggest streaming hits of today. But, fuelled by the huge success of biopic Bohemian Rhapsody – the film has taken almost $800 milllion (£617m) at the international box office to date and has been nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor – Queen scored no fewer than six of Q4’s biggest singles.

      That list in full:
Bohemian Rhapsody (No.53, 173,776 sales, according to the Official Charts Company)
      Don’t Stop Me Now (No.108, 107,506)
Another One Bites The Dust (No.142, 89,776)
      Somebody To Love (No.168, 80,382)
Under Pressure (with David Bowie, No.187, 72,368)
      Killer Queen (No.194, 70,650).
      That's a total of 594,458 for just 6 sings!

In addition, the band had four of the quarter’s Top 200 albums:
      Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack (No.7, 210,306)
      The Platinum Collection (No.14, 140,779)
      Greatest Hits (No.44, 47,291)
      A Night At The Opera (No.105, 20,326).
      That's a total of 418,702 for 4 Albums!

Unusually for a rock band, let alone a classic rock band, it was streaming that fuelled the performance, suggesting the biopic is helping the band’s label, Universal’s Virgin EMI, led by label president Ted Cockle, connect the music with a new, younger audience.

In December, Bohemian Rhapsody became the most-streamed song from the 20th Century, with over 1.6 billion streams across all major platforms. And the band now has almost 35 million monthly listeners on Spotify – right now that's even more than Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Cardi B or any manner of smash hit contemporary artists.

“It was a fantastic Q4 for Queen across the board,” David Hawkes, MD of Universal Music UK’s commercial division, told Music Week. “What’s really encouraging for us on Queen is the statistic from Spotify that over 70% of the streams on Queen since Bohemian Rhapsody was released are from the under-35s age category. The film has succeeded in taking a fantastic heritage act to a much younger audience – which bodes well for the Elton John film which will come this year.”

While a large percentage of streaming listening comes from catalogue material, it’s rare for so many songs from a single heritage artist to rub shoulders with today’s top hits in the chart’s top tier. Universal is likely to target a similar boost for John’s catalogue of hits when his biopic, Rocketman, comes out in the UK in May.

“If you can bring an audience in and you’ve got an artist with great songs, anything’s possible,” said Hawkes.

Bryan Singer's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Is A Best Picture Nominee And An $800M+ Global Blockbuster

As you probably know by now, Bohemian Rhapsody did indeed end up among the Best Picture nominees. Despite mixed reviews and oodles of pre-release controversy (over Bryan Singer getting fired and replaced by Dexter Fletcher and continual allegations against Singer concerning a history of sexual harassment and/or assault) along with post-release controversy (over factual inaccuracies and whether or not the Freddie Mercury biopic essentially slut-shamed its bisexual protagonist), the film has been a monster hit for 20th Century Fox and friends. Not only has the film earned a Best Picture nomination (along with nods for Rami Malek and nods for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Editing), but the $55 million-budgeted Queen biopic has earned over $800 million at the worldwide box office.

The movie has earned more than any straight-up (no action, no fantasy) drama ever in unadjusted global grosses. Yes, there was a time when a movie like Kramer Vs. Kramer could snag $109 million in domestic earnings (around $400m+ adjusted for inflation), but by today's standards adult-skewing dramas like A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody, even in the popular "live-action musical" sub-genre, making it to $200m+ domestic qualities as a miracle. And yeah, the film is an overseas monster for Fox, earning nearly $600m outside of North America. That makes it Fox's biggest overseas earner ever behind only Ice Age 4, Ice Age 3, Titanic (a Fox movie that Paramount distributed in North America) and Avatar. Among all Fox flicks, its global take ranks eighth.

It is currently behind only Independence Day ($821 million in 1996), Revenge of the Sith ($849m in 2005), Ice Age: Continental Drift ($877m in 2012), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ($887m in 2009) The Phantom Menace ($1.027 billion, counting the 3-D reissue), Titanic ($2.1b, counting the 2012 reissue) and Avatar ($2.79b in 2009/2010). It is the third-cheapest movie ever to top $800m, behind only China's $30m Wolf Warrior 2 and Disney's The Lion King ($45m back in 1994). So, yes, if we argue that Best Picture is about awarding the producers, there's a case to be made that the producers deserve a tip of the hat for firing Singer, bringing in Fletcher and still offering a deeply crowd-pleasing blockbuster.

The biopic on Queen exceeds 800 million in the world, waiting for the release in China

Bohemian Rhapsody (watch the video review) resists in the head and further increases the proceeds compared to Tuesday, obtaining another 175 thousand euro, which bring its total to 26.8 million euro: at this point the exceeding the 27 is practically done.

                                      • Expect BR to pass 'Wonder woman', 'Fantastic beasts and where to find them' and 'Coco' this Sunday. Guessing I'd say we are looking for an 825 million dollar total. Braca?
