Hur posts are great and full of interesting figures.
Thanks again, Hur
My time visiting this thread for the first time in months this evening has been enjoyable, so just for you HUR, from the old timer's figures, and seeing as it had been mentioned above by you and JP59:
ANATO - end of Feb 76
LP - 531,713
Cassette - 69,264
8-track - 13,517
Now, based on this, it would seem that 1.5m is more than a certainty to me...
And I bought it too!

Good news - Queen are back in the UK top 75 album chart- Queen's Greatest Hits is at number 25 - no sales given but 'Death Cab For Cutie' at number 24 sold 5904 copies so Queen probably sold 5,800?
Queen's Greatest Hits 2 is at number 47 - no figures but The Saturdays at number 98 sold 1471 copies so maybe Queen sold 3,500?

Who is buying these Hits albums?
Surely most Queen fans would have bought their copy years ago?
Are these new young first-time fans?
Will there not be a saturation figure for Hits I or will it just keep on selling?
It is truly amazing how it keeps on selling.

Wow, great HUR!!
Thanks for having posted these data: they are really interesting. 2010 was a year quite dull for the band, anyway they sold about 500,000 copies and this is a very positive figure.
PS: We hope that also Billboard will answer us sooner or later...

A Night At The Opera (1975) - 280,000
Fits in really well with my previously supplied UK Retail Shipments of 332K 92-08, if we exclude 92/93, we get 308K and then maybe add in 7K for 09/10, about 315K shipped with 280K sold.
Greatest Hits (One) (1981) - 5,795,000
Greatest Hits II (1992) - 3,840,000
Could they supply you with individual figures for these albums, not the 'everything added together' totals?

New sales information coming from the UK:
Queen's UK Downloaded Singles in 2010
285,000
Queen's UK Album Sales in 2010
185,000
Just note that Queen didn't really sell many albums last year in the UK. As we all know, they didn't make the Musicweek's annual ranking; however, we are lucky to have found an alternative way to know what their albums and singles sales were during 2010.
It was a quiet year for them, as previously stated. Yet they sold 470,000 albums and singles combined; adding the few thousands they will have sold with their music videos, I would assume they are likely to have achieved nearly 500,000 copies in records sales. Considering that last year was bad for them and that they still managed to sell that amount, it just goes to prove how big they are in that country.
Queen's Total Digital Downloads in UK from 2004 to January 2011

The BBC produced a programme titled 'Queen - Days of Our Lives' [you can watch it online here if you're from the UK, not sure if you can watch it outside of the UK]. Anyway, its mighty interesting, although I'm not sure if its an old programme or a recent one. It contains lots of vintage interviews with Freddie Mercury and the other members + industry critics and insiders. The snyopsis reads as this:
Originally posted by BBCIn 1971, four university students got together to form a band. Since then, that certain band called Queen have released 26 albums and sold over 300 million records worldwide. The popularity of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon is stronger than ever. Their story is a remarkable one, a narrative that covers early struggles, huge obstacles, success, arguments, breakups, triumph, tragedy and an enduring legacy - all against a backdrop of brilliant music and stunning live performances from every corner of the globe.
In this film, for the first time, it is the band that tells their story. Guiding us through an extensive archive full of hitherto unseen footage, the documentary reveals how four strong-minded individuals, all capable of writing massive hit songs, worked together so successfully for four decades. Queen never did anything by halves - meaning their highs were massive, but their lows catastrophic. It is a compelling story told with intelligence, wit, plenty of humour and painful honesty.
