I think it was, but then each target becomes important. I originally hoped it would pass 300 million but it made 3 times that which is unbelievable. I hope the Elton John film is a hit. BR won�t reach 1 billion, it has maybe 5 million dollars left in the tank.

Thanks rockintunesbaby i read somewhere that it only took 14m on a wide release but i dont think it was a good site but hey 900m

Bohemian Rhapsody finally got dragged, kicking and screaming in protest, over the $900 million global mark. The film has been playing in a heavily censored version in China for the past few weeks, and has earned $13 million over there. By the way, the film has earned a dynamite $115 million thus far in Japan, so China isn't always the key market that deserves our attention.

The film is already the biggest-grossing straight drama of all time, sans inflation. It's not entirely identical, but there's a reason Paramount is opening Rocketman (their Elton John biopic helmed by Dexter Fletcher, the man who took over after Fox fired Bryan Singer from the aforementioned Queen biopic) at Cannes. It could easily be the big "event movie for grown-ups" flick when it opens alongside Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Blumhouse's Ma on May 31.

The Freddie Mercury flick, which cost around $55 million, has earned a stunning $685 million overseas, making it Fox's biggest overseas grosser ever that isn't an Ice Age sequel or a James Cameron epic. In terms of worldwide grosses, it sits behind only The Phantom Menace, Titanic and Avatar among Fox's all-time champions. That's a complicated and bittersweet way to end your run as an independent studio as Fox becomes a cog in the Walt Disney machine.
