UK Albums Chart - Update (excluding Tuesday streaming data):
    #1. Live Around the World, @QueenWillRock & @adamlambert - 17.3k
    #2. (What’s the Story) Morning Glory, @oasis - 12.7k
    #3. #TheAlbum, @BLACKPINK - 9.4k
    #4. 2020, @BonJovi - 8.5k
#5. Songs from My Heart, @AmandaHolden

These sales are from yesterday. As we see from the message above, comparing Queen and Blackpink - the gap has narrowed overnight from 8000 to 5,300 (and I think this is without any streaming data added)

Blackpink close the gap on Queen + Adam Lambert in the race for the UK's Number 1 album

Queen are still out in-front, but Blackpink are heading for a Top 2 finish.

It’s set to be a photo finish in this week’s Official Albums Chart race as Blackpink have surged overnight, significantly closing the gap on midweek race leaders Queen + Adam Lambert.

With their current momentum, the South Korean girl group are likely to be in for a Top 2 finish with The Album when the Official Albums Chart is published tomorrow afternoon, up from Number 6 on Monday's Official Chart Update. Could they make it all the way at the final hour and become the first K-pop girl group to score a UK Number 1 album?

Yesterday’s Official Chart sales flash saw the group trailing Queen + Adam Lambert’s Live Around The World by 8,000 chart sales, the gap has since narrowed overnight to 5,300. With more sales and streaming data expected to arrive in tonight and the K-pop quartet advancing strongly on both fronts, the late challenge means this week’s Official Albums Chart race will go down to the wire.

However, if current leaders Queen manage to hold off the competition, they will be in line for their first chart topper in over 25 years tomorrow. The legendary British rockers were last at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart in November 1995 with Made in Heaven, the band’s final studio album which featured Freddie Mercury’s last recorded vocals before his death.

Live Around The World - which still leads on physical and download sales at this point - would also be a first Number 1 outing for Adam Lambert in the UK following three previous Top 40 albums.

The cut-off for sales and streams to count toward this week’s Official Chart is 11.59pm tonight - whoever you’re backing make sure to get behind your favourite before then. The Official Albums Chart will be announced tomorrow from 4pm on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills, and the full Top 100 will be published here on OfficialCharts.com from 5:45pm.

    Catalog Albums/Billboard 200 Chart Update – September 12, 2020

Chaotic Record Store Week on Sales Chart, but Queen Nabs 22nd Straight #1 Week on Catalog

Queen’s Greatest Hits (159/36) is one of the top 10 casualties on the catalog sales tally, dropping 3-15, and ends its run in the top 10 of catalog sellers at a record 99 weeks. The previous record of 86 weeks was set by the Grease soundtrack in 1997-1998, when the Catalog chart was an album-sales only chart. Other runs of more than half a year in the top 10 that came to an end this week, each of which was a record long run for the album in question: Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (180/36), falling 2-13 to end its top 10 run at 71 weeks; The Beatles’ Abbey Road (98/36), dropping 5-14 and wrapping up a 49 week top 10 run; and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle (177/35), sinking 10-26 to see a 35 week top 10 run come to an abrupt end.

Despite the drop in catalog sales ranking, Queen’s Greatest Hits remains #1 on the Catalog chart, extending its #1 run to 22 weeks and getting its 32nd #1 week of 2020. In fact, Queen increase their lead over the runner-up, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend, from 17 to 25 positions on the Billboard 200 this week (#31 versus #56). The Queen/Marley tandem at #1/#2 remains for the 18th consecutive week.

    Queen's Worldwide Chart Performance
    UK - 15 (22) Greatest Hits
    USA - 31 (33) Greatest Hits
Canada - 46 (Re) Bohemian Rhapsody Soundtrack
    Australia - 30 (38) Bohemian Rhapsody Soundtrack

braca2 you are correct - 3.4m minimum. Well spotted.

The platinum cert for 1991 was a minimum 600,000. But it actually sold over 900,000.
Robbie says sales (in all 3 versions) are around 3.975m by now. Fantastic.

I believe this is the history of the UK awards
Since 1 January 1989, the number of sales required to qualify for Silver, Gold and Platinum discs has been 200,000, 400,000 and 600,000, respectively. Prior to this, the thresholds were 250,000 (Silver), 500,000 (Gold) and 1,000,000 (Platinum).

so these 5P (4p plus 1p under the old rules) equals 3, 4 million minimum

    Catalog Albums/Billboard 200 Chart Update – August 29, 2020

    Queen’s #1 Run Reaches 20 Weeks - Longest No1 run since 2000

Queen’s Greatest Hits is #1 once again this week on the Catalog chart, extending its #1 run to 20 weeks and logging its 30th #1 week of 2020. It’s only the fifth such run in Catalog chart history, with the other four occurring between 1996 and 2000. Creed’s My Own Prison has the longest run at 33 weeks, from March through October 2000. That album was #1 for 38 weeks in 2000, the record for weeks at #1 for an album (and for an artist) in a single calendar year. Also, once again Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend is the #2 ranked Catalog album; Queen and Marley have been at #1 and #2 for sixteen straight weeks. BB200 rankings for the two albums are #29 and #44 respectively… Only three other albums have been #1 Catalog in 2020; the record minimum for a calendar year is five, set in 1998. One of the other three is Drake’s Scorpion, briefly pushed to Catalog status at the beginning of this year before being pulled back to current status. During its three-week run at #1, Queen’s Greatest Hits was the #2 album each week… The other #1 Catalog albums of 2020 were Michael Buble’s Christmas, on January 4, and Joe Diffie’s 16 Biggest Hits, on April 11.

    Thanks to Miguelito

Last Weeks UK Album Chart - Queen's Greatest Hits 2 re enters chart as the biggest selling release from the HMV vinyl week

Retailer HMV this week celebrated the latest in their series of Vinyl Week promotions, stocking a series of exclusive clear blue vinyl limited edition releases of a number of classic albums. Two of them sold enough to chart, most notably Queen's Greatest Hits II which returns to the chart at No.24 in what is perhaps startlingly its highest chart placing since its original chart run in 1991/2. Its 2,595 chart sales are largely thanks to the 1,389 physical copies it duly sold, although streams of its tracks accounted for well over a thousand more. For that reason David Bowie's classic Let's Dance (also part of the promotion) returns to the chart at a mere No.55, a full 1,460 of its 1,565 sales accounted for by physical product.
