I think the thing with Queen is that a lot of people just go the for the Greatest Hits packages rather than the original studio albums. Although 300,000+ (about 21k a year) for A Night At The Opera is reasonably good sales.

I will carry on with list, i'll just post them in order as I get the info.

Yes, with all those compilations, those are very decent numbers. It also shows how "Queen" and "Queen 2" are ready to be certified platinum. Dispite that, I feel I understand what John is pointing.

The numbers for ANATO posted by jimmypages59
are higher then the 90,400 the chart Coy informed some time ago ref the period 94 - 03. It would seem that the chart coy data does not cover all sales?

Roger Taylor and Brian May then accepted a special award on behalf of QUEEN - the Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed on the band at the VIVA Comet Awards.

Those UK awards dics are fake. The Killer Queen is just a copy of the normal UK 7" coloured gold and sold as a souvenir 'gold!' disc, nothing to do with BPI Awards. The Somebody To Love is exactly the same just a slightly better shot at it. If they were original BPI Awards disc they would sell for considerably more Ł's. Here is an original UK Gold Awards disc for A Night at the Opera from 1976;

Unfortunatley I don't have any exact price references for Queen UK BPI Awards Discs. But you can see how much originals by similar sized artists such as U2, Led Zeppelin, Madonna etc, sell for, in this link. There are also some US RIAA Awards discs in there too, that are for Queen.

Yes, I had also read that "Made in heaven" was on 3 platinum award in Germany, and Brian and Roger had been given those awards. Looking at the performance of the album, I think that 1,5 M could easily be right.

Thanks to my necessarily annoymous source.

These are all formats including record club sales which are 15% of the total overall, but almost nothing in the past few years.

This album came out in October 1991 and sales to June 1992 must have been huge, particularly over Christmas 1991 and the death of Freddie and so on.

Indeed in early June 1992 it was certified for shipments of 1,500,000 copies after only 7 months on release.

These sales start in July 1992 and the album cleared over 0.5m in the second half of 1992.

From 1993-1996 it sold 100-200k annually.

From 1997, sales dipped below 100k, but were really knocked by the Platinum Collection from 2001 onwards.

Slight revival in 2005 which continues in 2006.

A complication is the cert for shipments of 2,400,000 in March 2000.

This makes compiling a total difficult - any consensus here?

well yes and no.

I do have my own ideas on this one, but first I've posted data this way so that members can have a look and see what they think.

We appear to have all this data for an album released as recently as 1991, but it doesn't all add up the same.

Let's see what everyone thinks.

I'll add those s/scan to Page One.
