Well, I'm rarely disappointed by performances of hits packages to be honest. First, because their sales is almost entirely due to the market 'saturation' level, second because in the end they all end selling well anyway, even when they start as flops.
In Netherlands for example, Platinum Collection was huge in 2005. It is very hard to smash again with the same stuff a few years later, so majors are unlikely to give this release a strong TV support in the country, which is the generator of like 90% of sales for that kind of products. A period of 8-10 years at least is needed to smash again with the same product. A moderate period of 3-5 years is needed between moderate hits of the same product. Etc. In the end, if you look at sales of hits package in a spam large enough, you will note that everything is quite logical, in all countries. The cumulative sales of hits package will be bigger in their biggest countries and vice versa.
If really they focus on this hit package for years to come, instead of the previous GHs and PC, I do not doubt a single second Absolute Greatest will become one of the biggest seller from 2009.
