  • Well, I'm rarely disappointed by performances of hits packages to be honest. First, because their sales is almost entirely due to the market 'saturation' level, second because in the end they all end selling well anyway, even when they start as flops.

In Netherlands for example, Platinum Collection was huge in 2005. It is very hard to smash again with the same stuff a few years later, so majors are unlikely to give this release a strong TV support in the country, which is the generator of like 90% of sales for that kind of products. A period of 8-10 years at least is needed to smash again with the same product. A moderate period of 3-5 years is needed between moderate hits of the same product. Etc. In the end, if you look at sales of hits package in a spam large enough, you will note that everything is quite logical, in all countries. The cumulative sales of hits package will be bigger in their biggest countries and vice versa.

If really they focus on this hit package for years to come, instead of the previous GHs and PC, I do not doubt a single second Absolute Greatest will become one of the biggest seller from 2009.

        • On Tuesday's midweeks, "Absolute Greatest" was just outside the Top 10 (thus making #11, maybe). It is selling very well, but it will probably "just" sell around 100,000 units this week, rather than the 125,000 to 150,000 I thought.

This album is still #8 in Norway this week. Fourth consecutive week inside the Top 10.

It may go up into the top 10 by the end of the week in the UK HUR - a few of the re-entries into the top 10 - Leona/Robbie Williams were on X Factor on Sunday so enjoyed a sales boost which may start to drop off by end of the week..

With the decade coming to a close, Billboard has compiled charts of the most successful albums from the past ten years and Bob Seger tops the Decade End Catalog Albums Chart with his Greatest Hits set.

The compilation includes Seger’s classics like “Night Moves,” “Old Time Rock & Roll” and “Like a Rock.” Seger beat out the likes of Pink Floyd, who came in at number three with Dark Side of the Moon, Metallica whose self-titled record placed fourth, and The Beatles’ 1 in fifth.

THE DECADE END CATALOG ALBUMS CHART

so, to be top 30 you have to sold not less then 60 copies!

In sweden, you need to sell around 200 copies to make it inside the top 60. And we are 9 million. So i guess even less could be well enoufgh
