Madonna Achieves Ninth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With 'Madame X'
    6/23/2019 by Keith Caulfield

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Springsteen’s Western Stars debuts, marking his 20th top 10 effort. The set begins with 66,000 equivalent album units (of which 62,000 were in album sales).

Springsteen first hit the top 10 back in 1975, when Born to Run sprinted 84-8 in its second week on the list (dated Sept. 20, 1975). The Boss last hit the top 10 in 2016 with the retrospective compilation release Chapter and Verse (debuting and peaking at No. 5).

Western Stars was led by the radio-promoted single “Hello Sunshine,” which has peaked at No. 23 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart.

Fun fact for chart watchers: With Madonna and Springsteen at Nos. 1 and 2 on the new Billboard 200, it’s the first time the Queen of Pop and The Boss have been in the top two together since 1985. The last time they were buddies in the top two (and the only time before this week) was for four weeks in January and February that year. On the charts dated Jan. 26 and Feb. 2, 1985, Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. and Madonna’s Like a Virgin were Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Then, the titles flipped ranks on Feb. 9 and Feb. 16. (Born spent a total of seven weeks at No. 1 and Virgin ruled for three weeks.)

Very good debuts everywhere! It's not like High Hopes was a bad album, but Western Stars is very strong and it deserves it.

What's your estimation for this in Germany? Around 50k like in UK?

As posted in another thread, this is his 11th number one album in the FIMI charts. He ties Madonna for the most number one albums regarding foreign artists. Overall only italian megastars Ligabue(14) and Vasco Rossi(17) have more, while Jovanotti got his 11th as well last week.

"Western Stars" is also the 500th number one album in the history of the FIMI charts (they started publishing the Italian album chart in March 1995). The very first one? Bruce's "Greatest Hits Vol.1" LOL

NEW RELEASES: ONWARD INTO THE CHRISTMAS-VERSE

Santa's sleigh is barreling in our direction, carols are blasting out of every retail space and industry folk are daydreaming of sugarplums during their year-end meetings. If you can scrounge up a few more drops of giving-a-crap before your seasonal gorging on eggnog and elf porn, here's what we're envisioning for the week's new releases.

Kodak Black (Atlantic) 60-70k total activity, 4-7k album
    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Republic) 35-45k, 9-11k
    Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) 32-37k, 30-35k
    Mitchell Tenpenny (Riser House/Columbia Nashville) 15-20k, 11-14k
    ZAYN (RCA) 15-20k, 3-5k

Spider-Man is enjoying strong reviews, as is the Springsteen special, debuting on Netflix this very evening (12/16).
