      UK (Ozzy Osbourne)

BLIZZARD OF OZ Aug 1981 SILVER 60,000
TALK OF THE DEVIL Jan 1982 SILVER 60,000
BARK AT THE MOON Jan 1984 SILVER 60,000
THE ULTIMATE SIN Apr 1986 SILVER 60,000

The sales in the UK are quite pathetic when compared to the US, where Ozzy has a huge and loyal fanbase.

Does anyone have data regarding Black Sabbath certifications in Australia?

The only details I have is that of the DVD "The Black Sabbath Story Vol. 1", which was certified Gold in 2005

          (21/04/2007)

54 NE BLACK SABBATH THE DIO YEARS 20,805

"The Dio Years" enters the chart this week at #54 with about 21K. An improvement over last years "Greatest Hits 1970-78" which entered at #96 with just over 11K.

          (01/04/2006)

96 NE BLACK SABBATH GREATEST HITS 1970-78 11,227

It's not surprising that it has a better first sales week, as it's the first Sabbath compilation covering the Dio material only. Plus it has three new songs, one of which (The Devil Cried) sees chart action on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.

In the long run I believe "Greatest Hits 1970-78" will prove the better catalog seller though.
I doubt "The Dio Years" will top the first year sales of 182K by "GH 1970-78".

The Heaven & Hell Tour may prove me wrong...

I'm hoping it will be a good seller. As it's the first compilation for that era of Sabbath, it stands a good chance of doing so.

The Devil Cried moves up one place to No.37 on this week's Mainstream Rock chart!

Sales is now steady around 5,000 a week. It climbed the chart this week, first time since entry.

"The Dio Years" is already Ronnie James Dio's bestselling album since 1994's "Strange Highways" (75K). It will probably overtake that one in 3 or 4 weeks, becoming his bestselling album since his last one with Sabbath, 1992's "Dehumanizer" (211K).

It was all Dio era songs! Classics like Heaven & Hell, Children of the sea, Die Young, I, Mob rules, Sign of the southern cross and Neon knights along with one of the new songs of "Dio years": Shadow of the wind. They played for about 90 minutes.

Ozzy seems to have a pretty decent certification track. Shockingly, "The Grandfathers of Heavy metal" - Black Sabbath have been under certified almost everywhere. This includes the US, where they have had a pretty decent run even in the nineties and an even better run during the reunion years.

I had always thought that they enjoyed decent, if not great success in Europe....but then the certifications give an entirely different picture!
Hope this anomaly is rectified soon :-?

More great news! Like Deep Purple this is the first time I've seen any DIO album in the cat 200!

Released in 2000 it didn't chart at all either, and now it's also close to Gold!
This will be the first DIO Gold album since "Sacred Heart" from 1985!!!

Heaven And Hell (Sabbath w/Dio) managed just one week on BB200 with their new live album:
99 NE 01 Heaven & Hell, Live From Radio City Music Hall 6,000

The DVD version is doing a lot better. It debuted on the Music Video chart at #2 with 10,000 sales, and is still in the top 10 after 4 weeks.

After 20 weeks Black Rain fell of the chart. Now, 3 weeks later, it stands at 406,000 copies, a number that will surely increase following the pre-Christmas (nov 20th) release of the "Special Limited-Edition Tour Package" featuring a bonus CD of live tracks and B-sides.
