Anyway, ''The Very Best of Cher'' and ''Closer to the Truth'' hit #1 on Billboard's Top Internet Albums Chart, but yeah a BB 200 #1 is long overdue.

I have recently figured out that Cher was the 1st female artist to have 4 #1s on Billboard Hot 100 in 1974.
Albeit the chart was still very 'young' by then, it's still a very cool fun-fact!

Why do they prefer the GH 1965-1992 though? The "Gold"album is much better.

Yeah I find it interesting that the 'GH 65-92' is still selling, it's been in the UK and Australia top 1000 iTunes for months now and it always pops up high when Cher has some kind of exposure. Wouldn't people want to buy a collection with her more recent and contemporary hits?

Anyway, 'Gold' was released just 2 years after 'The Very Best of Cher', so it wasn't promoted or anything but still sold more than 100k in the US by now. If it had some kind of promo it could've easily sold 250k and be certified gold as it is a double album.
Wonder what are its sales in the UK and if it has any chance of going Silver.

The GH 65-92 was just released in Australia and UK right?

Last December, I bought "Gold" from HMV for 5 pounds, which is a very good price for a double album. Why would someone pay the same amount of money for a 1CD album which doesn't include her recent singles?

It was released in Europe, Aus and NZ, and it needs to be re-certified in several countries and certified in Australia though...
but yeah I agree, ''Very Best of Cher'' and ''Gold'' are far more comprehensive and it's strange people are still buying this one.

                  • These are the Cher / Sonny & Cher albums and video releases which according to estimations and various sources have sold/shipped the necessary amount to be certified but are are missing certifications or should be re-certified in the US.
There are also MANY uncertified singles, but I'll get to that later.

Anyway, I posted it on twitter so all of the Cher fans here feel free to re-tweet: https://twitter.com/alfiebot1/status/602849831959269376

Of course they will probably not bother to certify the 60s and the 70s stuff but as this year will be her 50th anniversary they should at least get the certs for the more recent releases.

Thanks! It won't hurt to try and get them to notice, her discography would definitely look much better if they had certified all her records (solo and with Sonny) on time!

                            • As the summer of 2015 officially marks Cher's 50th year as an entertainer, it is only fitting to make a summary of her accomplishments on the charts, starting with the US!

                            • • Cher has spent over 950 weeks on the US Billboard 200 chart with 42 charting albums, and 553 weeks on the Hot 100 chart with 51 singles.

                              • Cher was the first female artist to score 4 #1 hits on the Hot 100 by the mid '70s.

                              • She was also the first female artist to have a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 chart in 4 consecutive decades when 'Just Like Jesse James' reached #8 in the early 1990.

                              • Cher is the oldest woman to have a #1 hit on the Billboard's Hot 100, she was 52 years and 10 months when 'Believe' reached the top spot.

                              • With 25 years between 'Dark Lady' and 'Believe', Cher is the artist with the largest gap between #1's on the US Hot 100.

                              • Cher holds the record of notching No. 1s on the Hot 100 over the longest period of time: 33 years, seven months and three weeks.
The first of three weeks at No. 1 for "I Got You Babe" by Sonny & Cher was Aug. 14, 1965. The last week at No. 1 for Cher's "Believe" was Apr. 3, 1999.

                              • Cher is the only female artist with a Hot 100 entry in 5 consecutive decades, a feat achieved when 'Song For the Lonely' reached #85 in 2002, giving Cher a span of 37 years of charting singles.

                              • Cher is the only artist to date to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of the past 6 decades.

                              • Cher is the only female artist with a Top 20 hit on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart in 5 consecutive decades (before 1970s the AC chart was called the Easy Listening chart on which Cher has also charted in the '60s).

                              • Cher has a 48-year span of Top 3 albums on the US Billboard 200. She has had a Top 10 album in five and a Top 20 album in six decades.

                              • She has had certified singles in 4 and certified albums in 5 decades since the '60s with record sales in the US standing at over 55 million.

Thanks! I gathered the info from Billboard and CherNews blog (which hasn't been updated in a long time btw) and from my own research, but I hope we will get articles re Cher's anniversary with updated sales and such soon, as August is the month 'I Got You Babe' reached #1 in both US and UK in 1965!

                                      • Billboard posted a lengthy article / interview with Cher about her 50th anniversary:

It is a good article, I loved her frank replies but we all knew those charts info so I expect some updated Sounds Scan figures, the ones that we had for some singles were from 2013 and they sold quite a lot between the last time they were posted in 2011, so I'm really curious if the sales went up especially since she was touring. Also, imo Billboard (well Keith Caulfield) should have emphasized she is one of the most charting female artists, like they did in the Billboard's 40th anniversary issue...

Oh well, it's still great they made this as 50+ years in the music industry is not an easy thing to achieve, especially with the lack of support she's had from the labels, critics and record exec's. Still, she charted high and had certifications in each of the previous 6 decades, a true talent and survior!

That album must have sold roughly 100,000 worldwide. It should be over 20,000 in Canada and I would say about 50,000 in the UK. It has featured in the Budget charts the last few years. I would love if Billboard did an article featuring all her album sales in the US too, but that would probably never happen.

50k in the UK sounds great, does it mean it has a shot at being Silver or the albums on the budget charts have different rules, think I read that long time ago somewhere...
