If "The Way of Love" sold 975K by 1974, that would mean it probably sold over 1 million copies by now and is eligible for platinum, right?

Yup, with downloads and streaming it definitely passed 1 million copies many years ago.

Cher has many singles / albums that could be certified / re-certified but as with many other veteran artists, especially female ones, the chances of labels actually paying for it are very slim.

                      • The believe' album sell 700k at 2013. So... maybe 750m or 800 wiht streaming
                        love hurts more than 1million.
hear to stone only 1 platinum, seems impossible more than 500k because certification is automatic in uk

Automatic certs in the UK are only done for albums released after 1994.

For anything pre-1994, the record label has to certify the album/single/video with the BPI.

As per this article form July 1992, 'Love Hurts' sold more than 1 million in the UK, so it could have sold an additional 50-75k after that.

'Heart of Stone' sold more 700,000 - it was reported it sold 500k in 1989.

As For 'Believe' - it sold 700,000 as of 2013, not sure how streaming would affect the total of the album though. It does have a chance of getting 3 x Platinum if UK streams of its songs are added.

                                • When it comes to RIAA certs, physical singles and SPS cannot be combined to get a Gold cert.

It can't be 300k physical and 200k SPS for a Gold cert

If I Could Turn Back Time is certified Gold as a physical single. 500k in SPS can be used to get a Platinum digital certification.

Believe is certified Platinum as a physical single. 1 million in SPS can be used to get a 2x Platinum digital certification.

Shoop Shoop Song is not certified. 500k in SPS can get it a Gold digital certification.

I wish these would happen, but they probably won't.

                                        • Official Top 40 best-selling singles of 1998

It's exceedingly rare for an artist to return from a period in the commercial doldrums with a record-breaking Number 1 single, let alone nearly 30 years into their career. But in 1998, Cher proved once and for all that she was not most artists. To the rules, she was always an exception.

But Believe could never have been made in any other year than 1998, and it couldn't have been released by anyone other than Cher. Taking the fairly new technology of AutoTune, it seemed to rejoice in stretching Cher's iconic, deep voice into the realms of absurdity. The perfect fit, really, for a song that's about learning to love yourself after you've been left alone and changed by someone.

Believe proved to be revelatory for Cher, who was 52 at the time of its release. Debuting atop the Official Singles Chart and stayed at Number 1 for a total of seven weeks and is still her best-selling single in the UK today.

With sales totalling over 1.5 million copies (1.8 million overall), Believe was the UK's best-selling single of 1998 - and the first song by a female solo artist to be certified Triple Platinum. It also holds the distinction of being the highest-selling single by a female act - ever - on the Official Charts.

Now that's what you call a comeback.
