    • Taylor takes her Fearless tour to Australia and to major US/Canadian cities in 2010 while Kenny Chesney takes some time off from his hugely successful tour.

If the big boys in country music can hold off Taylor's bid for CMA Entertainer of the Year in 2009; just wait until 2010 when she is twice as successful ''

Taylor Swift's Fearless tour -- one of the year's most successful treks and another boost to the teen country star's rising profile -- will be extended through spring 2010, the singer announced today (Oct. 8).

The new leg will take Swift to Australia in February and bring her back to the U.S. on Mar. 4, after which she'll go on to visit 29 cities and play 37 shows across North America.

"I'm so excited to take the Fearless tour back out on the road again in 2010," says Swift. "This year's tour has been so much fun and even more unforgettable than I ever imagined. The fans have been so amazing, and I'm thrilled to play in new cities and see even more of my fans on the 2010 Fearless tour!"

The first leg of Swift's Fearless tour kicked off Apr. 23 in Evansville, Ind. and grossed $9 million through June 12, drawing 194,267 attendees to 17 sell-out shows, according to Billboard Boxscore. The leg is slated to wrap Oct. 11 in Minneapolis, Minn., shortly after which the final numbers for July-October will be made available.

2006 "American Idol" finalist Kellie Pickler and country quartet Gloriana will return to open Swift's 2010 shows. Tickets start at $25 and will go on sale later this month.

As previously reported, Swift will release "Fearless Platinum Edition" -- an expanded CD/DVD version of her hit sophomore album -- on Oct. 27 with six new songs. "Fearless" has sold 3,934,000 copies since its 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

      • With the big surge in fall releases, how long before TS-2006 falls below the top 100 to be moved to the catalog chart?

This week TS-2006 falls to #67 with a 4% drop in sales from last week - still 3300 above the cutoff.

              • I wonder how RIAA came up with their rules for allowable "enhanced content"? Likely too many artists were re-releasing albums with a few added song tracks so RIAA compromised their rules.

The RIAA rules list changes to original content allowed to be considered the same album for their album shipment audit. Too many changes results in RIAA counting the album as a new release.

I'm a bit unclear if Nielsen and Billboard follow something similar to RIAA rules when counting album sales, or do they just decide things as they happen

On the other hand, maybe Taylor and BMR made a smart marketing decision that will maximize album sales for Taylor - and they will live with whatever Nielsen, Billboard, or RIAA decide on the "new release" issue ''

If you only care for the Billboard Hot 100 there are no more hits that spent more than 20 weeks in the top 20.

The charts prior to the launch of the Hot 100 contained of course many records that spent more time in the top 20.

                          • In order to hit their target of two million in new album sales, Taylor Swift and Big Machine Records have focused their Fearless Platinum promotional media blitz on Country radio and TV with a big roll out Oct. 9th on the CMT network.

But the New York City area doesn't have any Country radio - what to do? It appears they have tied into local New York radio station Z100 as their designated Country radio lead and Z100 is more than happy to cooperate by announcing Taylor as their lead performer in a Dec 11th concert ''

                                  • Taylor Swift turning show tunes writer?

                                    - she may very well be writing a new song for her upcoming film debut in "Valentine's Day,"

                                    http://www.nashvillegab.com/2009/09/tay ... iter-.html

"Every time I think there's nothing else Taylor could possibly be adding to her resume, I come across something new.

The latest news of Taylor expanding her horizons is that she may very well be writing a new song for her upcoming film debut in "Valentine's Day," that is if director Gary Marshall has anything to say about it.

"We hope she does," Gary Marshall told E! News, "but when people write songs, they always want to see the movie.

"[Taylor] wants to see the part that she's in," he added. "I just finished, so I need to edit for a second."

Marshall had hoped that the two Taylor's, Lautner and Swift, would play bigger roles in the movie, but their schedules wouldn't allow for it.

"She writes songs and sings and he does the vampire thing," Marshall said. "But I discovered Taylor Lautner ran track back in Minnesota. That's why I have him jumping hurdles in the movie. She likes to dance and he likes to jump a hurdle, so we made up the scene for them."

Scene? I have a feeling there are going to be a heck of a lot of disappointed tweens if the two Taylors only have a single scene.

                                    • Taylor Swift #1 in US album sales over last 3 years

8.7 million US albums sold since debut album "Taylor Swift" released on October 24, 2006

                                      - there is an interesting comment in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune today as we approach the 3rd anniversary of Taylor Swift's debut album release on October 24, 2006:

"In fact, Swift has sold more albums in the past three years than any artist -- in any genre."

If you restrict that comment to US album sales, it appears to be true. Up to the Oct 17/09 chart date, Taylor's two EP's and two LP albums have sold 8.7 million copies which appears to beat all other artists over the past three years.

                                      • Taylor Swift - business woman and marketing genius

                                        1. How to sell 2 million albums from the new Fearless Platinum release over the last two months of 2009?

It should be noted that the Fearless album has accounted for 10% of all US country music album sales in the past year...

It may surprise you to find out that Taylor Swift has no business manager. She took over that role herself last year after turning 18. Previously, a BMR employee had acted as her official business manager ever since she was signed by BMR at age 15, but it is clear now that Taylor has always called the shots. Taylor relishes business meetings and dissecting contract details with her top business partners...

Big Machine Records [BMR] is building on the "Fearless" franchise name, and adding enough new song tracks for a new EP release - perhaps a winning combination. Apparently BMR has come up with a two pronged strategy to generate lots of free publicity in the two week leadup to the release of the new Fearless Platinum album:

                                        (1) offer their friends at Country Music Television [CMT] exclusive rights to a huge money making new TS-video release. You notice right away that all internet stories on "Taylor's new video" lead to CMT's website to actually watch the video - I haven't seen any copies elsewhere. Taylor's videos are already dominating all CMT business lines and are huge profit generators for CMT. But, everything has gone crazy since the Oct 9th release of the "Fifteen" video with new internet traffic records being set for the CMT site - and there is a short commercial to watch before you see the new video which is money to CMT's bottom line. Cost to BMR - nothing more than a normal video release.

                                        (2) BMR has been holding a tight lid on Taylor's six new songs that will be released in the new album; however, BMR has offered advance copies of the new album to Country radio stations across the US to use as marketing "prizes" in on-air contests for teenage girls and their parents in the two week lead up to the new album release. Essentially huge amounts of free publicity for the Fearless Platinum release aimed at BMR's stated target market.

                                        Marketing of Brand "Taylor"

                                        2. How does Taylor remove the negative publicity of Kanye-gate from her daily media interviews, and get on with business?

Taylor is not providing the media with any interesting answers to their Kanye questions. Walking away from the phone when a DJ asked too many Kanye questions generated lots of distracting media attention, so she has decided to be "boring". Taylor is getting good at giving nice long "no interesting content" answers to encourage interviewers to ask interesting questions...

But, if the media wants to talk about her love life...she has been dropping hints for weeks about how lonely she is...but she is used to being single...but she has "dreams" about having someone...she has bought a new condo to get away from mom and dad...etc. Suddenly we have the hugely popular young male lead TL for the new Twilight "New Moon" movie making lots of comments to the press about how much he looks forward to seeing Taylor again, how much he enjoyed working with Taylor filming the Valentine's Day movie in August, and she is saying the same - lots of free publicity. How likely is it that 17 year old TL shows up at Taylor's Chicago concert and they go into a movie-like professional actor type lingering "hug" in front of 15,000 people with cameras? And then TL shows up at her next concert to emphasize the point. There may be some romantic interest between the two, but at this point it is all about "career marketing" for both of them.

Problem solved - none of Taylor's core media outlets have any interest in Kanye-gate.

Taylor also revealed plans about her third studio album, saying, “My next big dream is probably going to be making a third album that I’m even more proud of than my second album. I’ve already written so many songs for it, and recorded about half of it, so hopefully when the third album comes out I’ll be even more proud of it than anything I’ve put out before.”

Taylor Swift will host Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7, NBC has announced.

Swift, who performed on the 35-year-old satirical program in January, will be hosting for the first time, an opportunity she calls "mind-blowing," according to a statement. She adds, "I love being around people who I feel have a different kind of creative genius. And the funny genius is definitely a fascinating one to be around."

Of course, it wasn't so funny on Sept. 13 when West interrupted Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards while she was accepting for best female video. Days later, he officially apologized.

While it made for bad manners, it also made for good TV. The incident will also likely serve for inspiration for some laughs at West's expense come the SNL gig.

"I've been thinking about skit ideas for a long time," Swift, 19, tells the Associated Press. "There are definitely some hilarious things that have happened to me over the past couple of months that I think will be pretty substantial skits."

Besides SNL, Swift will also perform on Dancing with the Stars, in an appearance scheduled for Oct. 27.
