    • "Taylor Swift will end 2009 as the best-selling artist in all genres, outside of the late Michael Jackson."

Taylor Swift’s Fearless record continued to dominate the charts as well with Fearless moving up a notch on the Nielsen SoundScan Hot 200 Albums chart to number 5 (good for second on the country charts) while her self-titled debut continues to be a remarkable success on the charts after over three years on the charts.

Now in its 160th week on the charts, Taylor Swift has spent the longest amount of time in the Nielsen SoundScan Hot 200’s top 100 this decade (once the album drops out of the Top 100 for a couple of weeks it moves to the Top Catalog albums chart).

In fact, Taylor Swift will end 2009 as the best-selling artist in all genres, outside of the late Michael Jackson.

The Taylor Swift album has now sold over 4.4 million copies and should retain the title as the best-selling Taylor Swift album for two more weeks or so, when the one year old Fearless will take that distinction.

Taylor was on The Paul O’Grady Show. Video clips at this site http://taylorswiftonline.net/

I'm really happy to see Taylor kept her fiddle for the UK trip instead of asking Caitlin to play guitar. There is nothing wrong with having a fiddle/violin in your band, Taylor.

Interesting predictions by country music's Roughstock

5 of 6 for Taylor Swift and 4 of 5 for Michael Jackson with a 1-1 split when they meet head-to-head...Taylor taking pop album of the year and MJ taking Artist of the Year.

...but it is a popular vote...so let's not confuse the issue by placing any significance behind the results

Both have very loyal fans. The voting as I understand it is web based, if that is so it gives swift an edge on the simple fact that the younger you are the better you are with a computer. If she does indeed take both of those awards it will be huge for her album sales.

                  • Ongoing criticism of Taylor's voice helps build credibility and sales with her target audience [and fan votes at the AMA's] - I agree with this article that Taylor's strength is her authenticity as a real person.

Taylor has sworn to never lip-sync or use auto-tune in live performance or live TV, so this is a conscious decision to place her flaws in front of the world - part of her "fearless" persona of having fears and not being "bullet proof" but proceeding anyways to put forward her best effort as a role model - which goes over so well with parents buying her albums as well as teens who want those albums.

Taylor's songwriting protects her from competition since no perfect voiced diva is going to attempt Taylor's poetic storytelling style and complex musical lyrics - which can be intentionally off-key.

                    CRITIC'S NOTEBOOK
In search of the perfect diva

"It's nothing new for a young female singer to take slaps for her lack of chops. Remember Madonna's early days or, really, most of Janet Jackson's career?

What's different about Swift is that her vocal problems actually play into her strengths.

Ridiculously precocious as a writer, accessibly adorable when it comes to image, Swift benefits from having a flaw.

Pretty but gangly, she's like a Disney heroine before the kiss makes her a real princess; her pitch problems enhance the sense that she's a work in progress. Swift's little voice drives adults crazy -- especially country-music lovers, who decry her as inauthentic -- but for the daughters and mothers who are her target audience, it shows she's as real as they are, with room to grow."

                          • Along with Dane's list of 7 top 10 2008 albums still on the BB200, there are no 2007 albums, but there is still 1 album from the top 10 2006 albums on BB200 - about 0.4 million behind the 2006 leader.

With weekly sales of 10-15k over the holidays and steady sales through 2010, TS-2006 appears to be moving towards the eventual leadership of the 2006 released albums in US sales.

Since MJ beat Taylor for best Pop Album, I would guess that the vote was fairly close in the Artist of the Year category.

                                    • Fearless holds to top 10 BB200 for another week

                                      - Taylor Swift [2006] and Taylor Swift Holiday Album at # 20 gives her three albums on the BB200 for the first time

                                      http://www.billboard.com/news/john-maye ... 8329.story

Rounding out the holdovers in the top 10, Carrie Underwood's "Play On" drops from No. 3 to No. 9 with 86,000 (down 33%) and Taylor Swift's "Fearless" maintains falls five spots to No. 10 with 84,000 (down 8%).

Old is new again on the Billboard 200 this week, as a bevy of fresh (old) faces dot our newly revamped chart. The tally has been modified to allow older album releases (called "catalog") back onto the list.

In the top 20, Taylor Swift's "Sounds of the Season" (No. 20 with 45,000; down less than 1%).

Since May 25, 1991, catalog albums have had their own Billboard home: the Top Pop Catalog chart. Catalog albums are defined as those that are at least 18 months old, have fallen below No. 100 on the Billboard 200 chart and do not have an active single on our radio charts. . This week, which also not coincidentally marks the first chart week of Billboard's 2010 chart year, we have made over the Billboard 200 so that older titles are brought back into the mix.

Taylor Swift’s venerable self-titled debut (from 2006) continues to sell well as the album moves closer to the 4.5 million copies sold mark. It rounds out this week’s Top 10 country albums, all of which are within the Nielsen SoundScan Hot 200 Albums chart’s Top 50. This continues to show retail and the industry that country music remains one of the stronger genres for albums sales, particularly as other genres become more and more single-song based.
