HDD forecast is another week in the top 10 on the BB200 for Taylor...still # 1 in total US album sales over the last 158 weeks
...and even more important, one of Taylor's albums will likely take the # 1 Country album spot for the 51st week of her 158 week career = 32 %
YOUR WEEKEND CHART PREVIEW: The companion to Michael Jackson's This Is It is leaving the competition in the rearview mirror in the race for #1 on next week's album chart. The only remaining question is, how high can it go? We have no idea. But here's how things look heading into the Halloween weekend:
* This Is It (Epic) 300-325k
* Creed (Wind-up) 100-110k
Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 90-100k (* Deluxe edition released this week.)
* Rod Stewart (J/RMG) 75-80k
* Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Lava/Atlantic) 70-75k
Michael Buble (Reprise) 70-75k
Twilight: New Moon (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 65-70k
Tim McGraw (Curb) 65-70k
* Sting (Deutsche Grammophon) 45-50k
* Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic) 35-40k
* Wolfmother (Interscope) 30-35k
Jay-Z (Roc Nation/Atlantic) 30-35k
* Tech N9ne (Strange Music) 30-35k
* Denotes debut
You may now return to wondering how it feels to be young, good-looking and undead. (10/30a)Red took 5 weeks to hit 2m in US sales. Speak Now took 6. Fearless took 7. Taylor Swift took 61. 1989 hit 2m in 3 weeks...Comment

The deep thinkers at Billboard explain that the album name is the most important factor for Billboard in deciding to combine sales from a re-release with the original album numbers...''
Ask Billboard: Going Gaga For Album Re-Releases
by Gary Trust | October 30, 2009 5:29 EDT
http://www.billboard.com/column/chartbe ... 2222.story
SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW
Hi Gary,
My question is in regard to album re-releases. We have seen that a fair number of albums, hugely successful or not, get re-released in some way or another. What is the new-song limit that Billboard has when counting an album as a re-release or not?
I remember Rihanna's album "Good Girl Gone Bad" was 're-loaded' with three new tracks last year, but the chart life of the album was combined with its first version. Will the Nov. 23 re-release of Lady Gaga's debut collection, re-entitled "The Fame Monster," be considered a re-release or a new album? It will contain not three or four new songs, but eight, which is even more than those on a standard EP or Taylor Swift's "Platinum Edition" of "Fearless," which contains six new songs.
Thank you,
Juan Croussett
Tampa, Florida
Hi Juan,
For the clearest explanation as to how Billboard will chart the releases you mention, I asked Billboard 200 chart manager Keith Caulfield. Here is his response:
"Billboard has many guidelines about the merging of so-called special edition albums with their original parent albums. Generally speaking, two or more versions of an album will not be merged if the title of the special edition version is substantially different from the original. For Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' and 'The Fame Monster,' we feel that the change was in line with what we've allowed in the past (a la Rihanna's 'Good Girl Gone Bad' and 'Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded').
"Additionally, for our chart purposes, there is no limit as to how many audio tracks or songs can be added to an original album, as long as the additional audio content does not extend beyond one additional CD (or digital equivalent) and the content of the standard edition remains intact.
"Thus, the reissue of Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' in a deluxe version ('The Fame Monster') with additional songs will have its sales combined with the original 'Fame' album. The same goes for the 'Platinum Edition' of Taylor Swift's 'Fearless'."Red took 5 weeks to hit 2m in US sales. Speak Now took 6. Fearless took 7. Taylor Swift Shatters Billboard Record for Longest-Charting Album of This Century
Taylor Swift enters the history books this week, claiming the Billboard record for the longest charting album of this century.
Released in October of 2006, Taylor’s self-titled debut CD now spends its 157th week on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart, more weeks on the chart than any album this decade, surpassing the record previously held by Nickelback. Taylor also holds the Billboard record for most Top 10 debuts in a calendar year, and is the only solo female act in the 44-year history of the Billboard Country Chart to score five Top 10 singles from a debut album. Taylor holds the Billboard record for the longest-charting female Country star in the Nielsen SoundScan era, and is also the only Country artist in history to have a #1 single on Billboard's Nielsen BDS Hot 100 Airplay chart (which incorporates airplay from all formats).
Also this week, with Big Machine Records’ release of the CD/DVD Fearless Platinum Edition, Taylor locked down five of the Top 10 singles positions on iTunes' all-genre singles chart, as well as seven of iTunes' Top 10 Country singles, including the entire Top 6. Fearless, named 2009's Album of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, was originally released in November of 2008. Now quadruple-platinum in the US, Fearless has earned Gold or Platinum status in 16 countries spanning five continents and has spent more weeks in the #1 position atop Billboard's Top 200 all-genre CD sales chart than any other album this decade.
This Saturday, November 7th, Taylor is set to host Saturday Night Live (NBC), and will also serve as the show's musical guest that evening. Taylor joins a small number of artists who have pulled double duty on the show, a group that includes Justin Timberlake, Sting and Janet Jackson. The last time a female country artist was tapped to both host and perform was Dolly Parton, twenty years ago. Taylor will appear tonight, November 2nd, on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and is set to perform on the CMA Awards on ABC on November 11th.
Taylor is nominated for four CMA Awards this year, and with six nominations is the top nominee for the 2009 American Music Awards.Red took 5 weeks to hit 2m in US sales. Speak Now took 6. Fearless took 7. Taylor Swift took 61. 1989 hit 2m in 3 weeks...Comment

Taylor Swift is Breaking Chart Records and Taking Names

"In September of 2006, a 16 year old singer released her debut album to an unsuspecting audience. The second release for a small record label, the self-titled album was supporting the singers innocent little single named after a famous superstar. Haven’t guessed who we’re talking about yet? It’s Taylor Swift, the singer-songwriter who not only started on her rise to superstardom that autumn month over three years ago, she also helped her record label Big Machine Records grow as well. Now Taylor’s the biggest star in all of music while her label is the most successful label in Nashville..."
...and Taylor is still the franchise player on Big Machine Records, so the "biggest record label in Nashville" means that Taylor outsells all the other record labels in Nashville.
"...That little Taylor Swift album spawned multiple hits and it’s a record that keeps on giving. Today it was announced that the record has broken the record for most weeks spent on the Hot 200 Albums charts that are compiled by Nielsen Soundscan for Billboard. The record, which is now a remarkable 157 weeks, was taken from Alt Rockers Nickelback and it gives Taylor Swift this decade’s longest-charting album. The album also has the distinction of giving Taylor Swift solace as she’s the only solo female country artist ever to score five top ten hit singles on the Hot Country Songs chart in over 44 years.
Swift, who recently locked-down five of iTunes’s all-genre singles chart with five of the six new tracks from her recently released Fearless [Platinum Edition], also will be hosting the November 7, 2009 edition of Saturday Night Live while preparing for the following week’s CMA Awards show, where she is nominated for four awards including Entertainer, Female Vocalist and Album of the Year for Fearless. She also garnered a total of six nominations from the American Music Awards, the most of any artist this year."Red took 5 weeks to hit 2m in US sales. Speak Now took 6. Fearless took 7. George Jones: new country music needs a new name
By CAITLIN KING
The Associated Press
6:15 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country Music Hall of Famer George Jones isn't a big fan of where the genre has moved in recent years.
When asked about what he thought about music by today's top country stars, the 78-year-old said while they are good, "they've stolen our identity."
Jones made the comment during a recent interview when asked about music by artists like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift.
"They had to use something that was established already, and that's traditional country music. So what they need to do really, I think, is find their own title, because they're definitely not traditional country music," he said.
"It's good to know that we still do traditional country music. Alan Jackson still does it, so does George Strait. We still have it, and there's quite a few of us that are going to hope that it comes back one of these days."
Still, his contemporaries haven't always stuck to traditional country, either. Fellow Hall of Fame member Johnny Cash was met with critical acclaim a few years ago by covering the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt." Asked whether he'd ever branch out to a completely different genre of music, like heavy metal or rap, Jones laughed and said: "Rap? That's tacky."
"How can you call that music?" he added. "Now, I love music, too. I love all kinds. I really do. I've got Brook Benton. I like his singing. Ray Charles. I've got an open mind. But now, you can't call rap, talking stuff like that, music. No, no, no, you've got to have another name for that."
Jones recently put out a new CD, through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, called "A Collection of My Best Recollection." It includes some of his most requested songs from throughout his career, including classics like "White Lightning" and "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair," as well as two previously unreleased ones.
"Only thing I would like to keep accomplishing is music for my fans and achieving some goals to keep them happy with what I record in the future," Jones said. "I've done just about everything else. The good Lord's been good to me ... I'm going to enjoy the rest of my life."
