                • Taylor is tied for most album best sellers in release year by a solo artist on this retail store list of SoundScan sales...

                  http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.p ... 46#3701446

According to Basil's numbers, the major players for most top selling albums in US history by year of release are:

                  The Beatles - 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 2000

                  Elvis Presley - 1957, 1958, 1961
                  Pink Floyd - 1973, 1975, 1979
                  Taylor Swift - 2006, 2008, 2010

                  Miles Davis - 1956, 1959
                  Metalica - 1983, 1991
                  Garth Brooks - 1989, 1990

Thanks to Hanboo for the vast majority of these figures. Also AutomaticBR, thebigham and Dane.

....who do you think will be # 1 for 2012 album releases?

We're still six months from Taylor's 4th Studio Album release, so at this point sales numbers similar to Speak Now would be a reasonable guess ~ 3 million in 2012
Red took 5 weeks to hit 2m in US sales. Speak Now took 6. Fearless took 7. Taylor Swift took 61. 1989 hit 2m in 3 weeks...

This particular ukmix website only counts SoundScan sales at stores, so Em's Recovery is still ahead in the general US sales count....

These were the SS numbers as of last week:

                              75 67 63 70 * SWIFT*TAYLOR SPEAK NOW 7031 11 6315 4054009

                              93 64 92 121 EMINEM RECOVERY 4099 -9 4520 4234760

That's a difference of 180,751 in Eminem's favor. If Hits numbers are fairly accurate and Em sold another 4k this week, then the difference will be more like 173k this week, but I expect SN will dip again in sales next week. Unfortunately Eminem is a great catalog seller (thus Recovery still on the charts), so it will be difficult for SN to pass Recovery, but it could definitely happen at some point, just probably not anytime in the next year. Even if SN sells 3k more than Recovery every week from here on out (which is a reasonable estimate), it would take over a year for SN to become the number 1 seller from 2010.

The good thing, however, is that Taylor is starting to get a mainstream hit with "Eyes Open," and hopefully she can continue that trend with the new B.O.B. song as well as the first single from her new album. That exposure along with the hype from her new album will hopefully keep SN afloat for the year.

SN is also number 3 for the decade so far in the US. I know its a long wait to find out, but I hope it ends up being one of the top 10 selling albums of the decade!

Safe and Sound should be sent to country
I don't get why they haven't done that yet! "Ours" is already falling on the country charts, it dropped out of the Hot 100 this week and I'm pretty sure they're not releasing anything else from SN after that, so why not send S&S to country radio? the song is already big on it's own, they have nothing to lose! :-?
I second this. S&S is really big. Going platinum now. and the MV has already snatched Ours' wig and is coming for Sparks fly's.
I'm afraid if it doesn't get into top 10 it will break the top 10 streak
Well, I doubt it would go Top 10, so maybe it's better if they don't release it [/quote:31qwld2h]

BMR won't release any more to country radio till 1st single of 4th album. They probably want an off period till new single.[/quote:31qwld2h]

Right. Taylor only releases 5 singles in country radios unlike Shania Twain. :( :( :( So Speak Now era is now 'officially' ended So many wrong moves this era :(

The last week on country chart, ok, see you on August, country!
I kinda missed checking updates for country. For me it's more exciting and a #1 there means more to me.
I can't open the links :( :( But anyway, I will also miss checking country updates. So excited for the lead single of the 4th album! I wish it'll smash very hard on both country and pop, US and worldwide! It's time to regain her huge popularity worldwide

I hope it will surpass Recovery's sales, as well as Taylor's debut album!

Great to see this having a 1m+ run and yeah all the new songs should keep Speak Now selling and her 4th album hype should help SN sell too, I hope by Christmas Speak Now will pass Em.
