I don't see why you felt the need to mention Adele at all then. I mean youre the one inviting comparisons!!

Because Jeremy posted she still has the biggest opening. That post made me realize that Adele didn‘t break the record, and I didn‘t expect Taylor to hold that record and I think most people expected Adele to break it, right?

I never try to bring artists down and refuse to get drawn into this

Can you stop bringing the twitter stan logic here? It's annoying. Can you find a reliable source that says "blah blah blah which boosted her numbers 'a lot' "? 16 covers availble doesn't mean people bought 16 covers. Most people just buy one or two. You saw some people on twitter sharing folklore with 16 versions and thought all her fans were buying multible versions. Not to mention how many people on twitter were buying 16 versions exactly? Probably less than 50. Bruh.

Well font forget that she included a digital copy with every physical copy ordered so they could all count for week one. That practice has since been disqualified from the charts. So there's no doubt that Taylor's opening week was boosted many things and Adele is the biggest opening week by far since all the new rules were implemented.

I was impressed with Red TVs first week and I think 1989 could be bigger. Taylor has a very dedicated fan base.

The rules were different when Folklore was released so youre not comparing like with like
. As noted by Billboard in their report Adele has the biggest opening week by far since the new rules were implemented, followed by I think Drake and then Taylor with Red TV!

Nah. Positions by Ariana was the first album to come out under the current rules and Adele has the biggest opening since all the new rules were brought in. Billboard even noted this in their report ;)

                      • 16 versions boosts sales a lot -> additional digital copies boost her sales a lot so Billboard changed the rule bc of her -> Now Ariana's album was the first one under current rules?? Who said folklore was the first one anyway?

Yes. In 2017 the highest female artist was Rihanna at #15.

Unfortunately, ever year it’s the same male domination, though…
This year as well there are only 10 women on the overall Top 50. But at least this time there are 3 women inside the Top 10.

                                        Folklore release day ------- 24 Jul 2020

Seems like all your resources come from your own mind.
Nope, those rules were implemented after Folklore was released, and just before Positions by Ariana dropped.

From the official Billboard report on Folklores first week, seeing as you need a reminder.

During the albums first week, Swifts webstore sold over a dozen physical/digital album bundles (with a CD, vinyl LP or cassette, plus the digital album). All of the physical/digital bundles delivered the digital version of the album upon purchase to the customer, while the physical version will ship to the customer later. Sales of such bundles where two formats of the same album are bundled together are counted as one sale, with the album configuration sold determined by the first version of the album that is fulfilled to the customer.

Swifts store additionally sold an array of merchandise/digital album bundles.
Billboard were being nice, because "over a dozen" was closer to 20, not to mention the hordes of merch which were also bundled with digital albums as noted above.

Folklore did really good numbers, but it operated under completely different conditions to the albums since the rules changed, and as such cannot be fairly compared.

                                                • So I've finally found all the data I needed to calculate the yearly sales of Taylor's first five albums from 2006 to 2019!

                                                  Sources:
Soundscan where possible & oldbloke's decade charts (Thank you soooooo much!)

                                                  Limitation:
Sales based on decade charts cannot be 100% accurate.
For example: If these are the data I have:
                                                  --------------------
                                                  lover / Year-End Total
                                                  2030 / 4,123,000
                                                  2031 / 4.32M
                                                  2032 / 4,505,000
                                                  --------------------
                                                  Then I would say "Lover" sold 4,320,000-4,123,000 = 197,000 in 2031 and 4,505,000 - 4,320,000 = 185,000 in 2032.
I know it's inaccurate, but this is the best I could do with these data available.
At least if you add all the data together for each album, the differences between official figures and your results should not be greater than 10k at worst.
Last but not least: Feel free to say if you have any doubts!

Green: from that year on (including that yr), all sales are based on decade charts rather than soundscan.
*: Not soundscan data, but derived from other soundscan data.
06-19 totals are soundscan data (I think?...)
