that's not correct as well, she should have appropriate and well-deserved certifications. Right now she's undercertified and this ain't OK, not at all. J Records better shell out some benjamins!

Alicia's undercertified! But Whitney and Shania are no overcertified. There albums are certified for what they sold. If you are comparing Soundscan numbers to the RIAA, especially for back when they were chart-toppers, then you lack knowledge of how the industry worked/works!!!

SIAM= 1,130,000
TDOA= 550,000
U= 50,000
AIA= 340,000
TEOF= 960,000
Total UK Album Sales= 3,030,000 Albums

10 million albums in Europe total makes her one of the best selling female R&B artist in Europe period.

^^^ Yup, one thing I've always admired about Alicia is how international her presence is. Granted, she's accepted as a musical genius (especially with Fallin') but she is still a very pure, R&B artist and that makes it so different.

Even her most pop song ever, PIIALS, was not given a release though it was originally slated to be released.

Sade is the only female R&B artist that is in Alicia's lane but thats a band so... Alicia the Queen of R&B. Janet sold about the same amount of albums, Whitney and Mariah's biggest hit in Europe were pop and neither can match Alicia's sales today so.

they're very accurate and reasonable, yet the real sales might be actually a lil bit higher (+10k for TDOAF and AIA). If only we knew some UK sales for her singles from the first and the second album. I only know "If I Ain't Got You" sold around 90-100k, definitely not bad for Top 20 hit released through crashing physical sales.

i agree that Alicia is basically "more r'n'b" than the old divas ala Janet, Mariah.
Of course her albums can't match their US or worldwide totals, but in past decade Alicia was top selling r'n'b female

Alicia and Mary J. Blige are true r'n'b queens for me, no matter what everybody says

TSWABH is a soul song in the lane of Prince, artistically. PIIALS is a po-dance song with R&B elements, which I would argue is only prominent because of the singers (Alicia and Beyonce)

yes, basically they both are not typical "pure rhythm and blues" song ala "Un-Thinkable". TSWABH is very soulful but also with a pop-feeling. PIIALS is contemporary pop/urban song (it was submitted for Best R'n'B Performence by A Duo Or Group), but generally i would say no Alicia song is seen as "very pop", which i do appreciate for death. Alicia is urban KEY

I do believe that ESOM2 has gone platinum in UK. She has had 8 top tens in UK which is basically same as USA (9). Can't believe she has yet made #1. Please not another Janet story.

I can't wait for her next album! I want the following:

1. Crossover single for first single
2. Massive second URBAN single
3. Crossover single for third single
4. 2 more MASSIVE URBAN hits

And intense promotion the whole time through. Her key has been staying pretty true to the R&B swag, without diluting her music too much, unless it's infused with soul. I want her to continue like this!

Whats shocking about her is that she has yet had 4 or more top tens from an album. I liked how she made "No One" cross over based on promotion. She needs to do that same for next album.

well, "Doesn't Mean Anything" was slated to be another cross-over ala "No One", that's why Clive wanted that song to be released so much (Alicia did not initially agreed). We all know how it ended (still so wrenching for me, cuz it's one of my fav of her).

So maybe next time it will be much more safe to release a pure urban single ala "If I Ain't Got You" or "Un-Thinkable". Of course a crossover with strong pop support would be the best choice, yet Alicia after "Like You'll Never See Me Again" failed to score Top 25 on Pop Songs, so it's gonna be very difficult to "melt" cold attitude from POP radios towards Alicia.

yes, she scored 3 Top 10s from "The Diary Of Alicia Keys" (4 Top 20) in the USA, and 3 Top 10s from "The Element From Freedom" in the UK, which was incredibly amazing success considering her previous UK track record

LYNSMA still hit #12 on Hot 100. Thats huge for Urban only song. I wouldnt mind that position again.

well, it was mostly due to massive airplay (No.5 on Hot Airplay, No.1 on urban and uac, totally topping r'n'b chart for 7wks and was voted Top R'n'B Song of 2008 by Billboard). On digital chart it did not perform that well, eventually peaking at No.37, especially considering massive TV promotion (she performed that so many times!).
But that peak was very nice generally for r'n'b female song in early 2008

if only next time she scored Top 20 on Hot 100 again!
SWIZZ must do wonders, he's her manager so he gotta really try very hard to line up a strong promotion and smart singles choices.

yes, i know it of course, but i would rather blame it on Clive than on Alicia

actually RIAA states prices even for non-member, so could we chip in and apply/pay for certifications on our own? just theoretically, i of course will not spend money on certifications
