      • She has 1.1B streams in Pandora overall. Quite impressive especially compared to her youtube and spotify stats.

                • Does anyone think Hot 100 should be updated pre-1998? I know this will never happen but it would be interesting to see if the chart actually included all charts points and not just Top 40 how other formats would have dominated.

                  https://www.billboard.com/amp/articl...irplay-singles

Most of Janet's top 5 hits would have more than likely gone to #1 bringing her total to anywhere to 14-20 since most of her singles were #1 R&B hits (16!)

People like Angel Winbush and Miki Howard who both had #1 R&B singles that never even made the Hot 100... and many more top 10 R&B singles would have actually charted on the Hot 100 since they never charted on the Hot 100.

                          • "On Dec. 5, 1998, the Billboard Hot 100 underwent one of the greatest methodology changes in its history....

Previously the domain of mostly top 40 stations, along with adult pop and alternative, the chart grew to the all-genre-based ranking that it is today, mixing in country, R&B/hip-hop, Latin and more." SOURCE: https://www.billboard.com/amp/articl...irplay-singles

Janet being one of the biggest R&B hit makers of all-time with 16 #1 R&B singles lost largely because of the no-R&B rule. As did a lot of country acts who saw their first charting hot 100 hits in 1999.

Good example is Reba McEntire who had 20+ #1 country singles before 1999 but scored only her SECOND Hot 100 chart entry peaking at #32 on the Hot 100 in 1999 thanks to the new rules.

The one BIG difference here is Janet was a massive R&B AND pop hit maker. Prior to the chart rule... 21 of Janet's singles were Top 5 Hot 100 hits without any R&B points.

"Any Time, Any Place" had ten weeks at #1 on the R&B charts. I'd imagine had all of those R&B points actually been included on the Hot 100 that single would have easily moved from #2 to #1 at some point. "I Get Lonely" as well. "Nasty" peaked at #1 on Hot 100 Single Sales but peaked at #3 on Hot 100, but was also a #1 R&B single... that as well more than likely would have moved to #1, as well as "Rhythm Nation" and many others #1 R&B Singles.

But I do think Janet would have had more #1's of course.

100%. It's also sad that so many core R&B and country artists had lots of #1 singles that never even made the Hot 100 because they never appeared on any of those "top 40, adult pop and or alternative" stations.

Granted a lot of country acts would have still struggled a little with just country points since not MANY country songs became pop crossover hits, but lots of R&B acts had massive crossover success. En Vogue, Whitney Houston, Prince, TLC, Jody Watley, Michael Jackson and so many others that would have had likely had other songs move to #1 on the Hot 100 (or spend a longer time at #1).

Imagine the "I Will Always Love You" or the "That's the Way Love Goes" chart run had R&B points been added!

I'd agree with that, too. But OSD was also helped by a 49 cent single. But it would have totally had a much longer run at #1. Source: https://www.nytimes.com/1996/01/25/a...nipulated.html

Also! "The Pleasure Principe" (a #1 R&B single) would have likely pushed the song from #14 (on Hot 100) to the top ten since it was a #1 R&B single. Making her consecutive top ten records for a woman even longer! 18 to 24! She had to do the Super Bowl! lol

I'm assuming looking at the difference on the R&B chart for "ATAP" and "I Swear". "Any Time, Any Place" would have likely been the #1 single on the Hot 100 that week had R&B points been included. Would take a lot of work to do each peak week for her singles but does give you an idea on how a lot of chart peaks could have been different.

                                              Rhythm Nation #1

Another Day In Paradise (did not chart on any R&B related charts)

Another example at how had R&B points been included "Rhythm Nation" would have also likely been a #1 single on the Hot 100, I'd even imagine may have blocked "Paradise" from going #1 since RN was Top 5 on the R&B chart the entire time Phil was #1 on the Hot 100.

Very interesting to look at old charts and see how things could have been different with an all-genre Hot 100.

Interestingly enough looks like "Control" could have also been a #1 single on the Hot 100 the week of 1/10 if R&B points were included. If not #1 it would have clearly moved up based on the R&B chart that week.

                                                  • Looks like there was a chance that "Come Back to Me" could have been #1 on the Hot 100 week ending 08/25/1990.

"Love Takes Time" was #6 on the R&B chart while "Come Back to Me" was #2

On the Hot 100 "Love Takes Time" was #1 and "CBTM" was #2.

CBTM was also #1 on AC while LTT was not on the chart at the time.

So crazy to see how almost all of the RN singles could have been #1 on the Hot 100!
