Where did you come up with the rest of the streams?
I said as a composer and songwriter, not only as a singer. She's credited for many hits, including songs performed by Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and even Thalía and Kylie Minogue. She's getting paid for it. That's an advantage when you're not only a singer.

Also, as a featured or co-lead artist in songs by Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Busta Rhymes, Blackstreet, Elton John, Bennie Man, Herb Alpert, and few others, she has a way over 700 million streams. Those streams are not shown by that Spotify tool any more because they removed "Number Ones" from her page.

She's not the only one though and no other fan group compile streams like that.

Why not and what that changes for Janet? This is not a competition, and we're not that immature, I believe. I encourage everyone to do the same because it would be interesting to know. There are artists that, clearly, can't benefit from it because they didn't write any of their hits, or they wrote only a few. But there are artists, like Joni Mitchell, whose most streamed song, by far, is "Got 'till It's Gone," or ABBA because of "Hung Up."

Anyway, this is basically rapping over her song, and nothing else. It has over 230 million streams on Spotify.

And did you hear this? It was a hit in Serbia. It's from a very popular film "Mi Nismo Anđeli 2."

        • I haven't heard that. I've heard of those movies though. Those were huge hits in Serbia right?

YT tries so hard to force regional videos to me, but I decided I will fight any recommendation it gives me as I don't care about Rada, Seka, Rozga, Lana. Even after I played that song there are 4 IDJ.videos recommendations

            LMAO

I never watch that either, but I face with what's popular here unwillingly when I go out and hear what people are listening in their homes or in clubs. It's horrendous.

            • Janet Jackson's album “The Velvet Rope,” now has over 150 million streams on Spotify. Janet's fifth best-selling album remains her most popular album in the streaming era.

              Top songs:
              “Together Again”
              “Got 'til It's Gone”
              “I Get Lonely”

So that's where Rihanna got inspiration. Was it "Anti" that has been given away and certified Platinum for it?

Samsung paid for those copies to give to their users. Same with Gaga's BTW 99cent deal where Amazon paid the rest to the label. That is where Rih's inspiration came from.

                  • I'd like to add a few notes about the "All for You" sales, because I saw some earlier posts.

According to Billboard's "Global 20," the "All for You" album sold 5 million in the ten biggest markets in 2001 (2.5 million in the U.S.).
It had additional 277,500 certified units in other markets, it peaked in top five and top ten in nine other countries, and in top twenty in two. It probably sold at least something in Latin America and other countries that didn't have official charts back then. That's at least 5.4 million sold in 2001.
From 2002 to date it sold 700k in the U.S. I don't know how much it sold in Japan in 2002, but she had a tour, TV promo, and a #1 hit there in 2002 and it probably sold at least 100k. That's 6.2 million copies sold globally, as a bare minimum, counting only sales in the U.S.and Japan after 2001.

From what we have, it's clear that is sold around 6,5 million, without being generous. 7 million is a claim that we can't back up with currently available data, but we can't dismiss it as a possibility either. Arguing over 500,000 copies when we talk about blockbusters sold in millions of copies, is ridiculous, anyway. It's not like that we can know the exact number.

                      • From Billboard Magazine, when "Son of a Gun," which peaked at No. 28, became Janet's lowest-charting song (where she is the primary artist) in 15 years:

Janet has amassed an incredible list of hits on the Hot 100 since 1985. Starting with the first single from Control, "What Have You Done for Me Lately," every chart entry since has made the top 20. Except for "The Pleasure Principle," which peaked at No. 14 in 1987, everything she has released has made the top 10. Her chart entries from 1995 form an even more impressive list, as all of the songs where she was the primary artist since then have made the top three.
They also noted that wrong song was chosen for a single and that there were plenty of other excellent candidates on the "All for You" album.

Thanks. It sold over 400,000 in less than 10 months. That's what we know for sure, so there's no doubt that it crossed 500,000 because it was still selling very well at that point. I was just wondering why are people taking 525,000 as a fact when I couldn't find that number anywhere.

I'm not sure what is weirder, how some people are acting as they have some kind of SoundScan system built into the head or how some people are taking those estimates as unbiased facts.

Most European countries don't have that charts culture. While many countries have charts today, people don't care about them. That's why Janet renamed "Number Ones" into "The Best" here, the most people just wouldn't get what that means. So, I think that in most countries tracking didn't exist at all and that all sales data we have depended on label's reports or claims, call it however you want. Europeans are just not interested in charts and ratings as Americans, with exception to Brits and Germans, maybe.

                                  • A new record-high monthly listeners on Spotify for Janet. It's nice to see it rising despite Janet not doing anything. I know that it rises for some other artists too, but it's not their record-high. That usually happens when you release something new, not five years after your last album to date. Her activity in the past two years pays off.

                                      • On this day, in 1986, Janet Jackson's “Control” started its two-week run at the pinnacle of the Billboard 200. It later became the first album by a female artist to produce five top-five singles and six top-forty singles on the Billboard Hot 100, in addition to selling around 10 million units worldwide.

Well, in Europe and everywhere else... (remember that even during Soundscan era US certs are still based on shipments).

And labels and media always used those shipments figures as sales.

Just as an example from my country, Cher's "Living Proof" was certified Platinum on 1st week for 100k copies shipped... as Believe was 4xPlatinum in Spain, the label overshipped it big time expecting good sales.
It peaked at #17 and it only stayed 2 weeks on chart.
Probably it didn't sell half of that figure... But even if most of those copies were returned and destroyed, the certification remains and it "officially" sold 100k copies in Spain... that were added to its total worldwide.

                                          • Whose idea was to certify shipments instead of sales, and why? It makes no sense. I know that it was hard to track sales back then, but still... And why did they continue that practice even in SoundScan era?

                                            • Why is this still charting and rising:

                                              US iTunes Top Albums:
                                              120 (+53) Janet Jackson - Control
                                              Gone.

                                              • Interesting, but despite being blacklisted for six years, Janet’s albums sales in the U.S. were pretty strong in the 2000s, even compared to artists like Beyoncé, Pink, and Rihanna who were current, young and at their pinnacle while Janet was in her late 30s and early 40s. Even globally, selling 4 studio albums in around 10 million units in the 2000s is hardly bad for a female artist of her age. People are often presenting the 2000s as a disastrous decade for Janet, but I don't see it.

                                                • Agreed. The fact that "Discipline" is eligible for a Gold certification despite the fact she dropped the ball on that album a week after it came out is pretty great looking back at it.
