  • "Because of Love" will probably be the only officially release physical single from 86-01 to not be certified.

All of the other singles will be certified and or updated whenever her labels/team do it.

    • We don't talk about this enough, but after almost 30 years "That's the Way Love Goes" is still the only song to debut at #1 on a Billboard Airplay chart when it entered at #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.

You mean exclusively on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart? Because just this week Romeo Santos debuted at #1 on the Latin Airplay chart

        • I was thinking more Hot 100 Airplay, Country, R&B/Hip-Hop.

          great for Latin airplay though

Granted we don't know how many the label shipped and SoundScan didn't cover all stores back in 1994 so MAYBE with SPS there's a VERY small chance, but I don't see it.

                        • I can't wait to see the new certifications for "Control" and "Rhythm Nation", mainly because I had no idea club sales weren't added to the RIAA until 1994/1995.

Those albums were last certified in 89 and 92. Both were huge at BMG and probably equally as big at Columbia House because she was so big at the time.

I'm realizing 1814 could very well be diamond.

                          6 million RIAA 1992
                          1.8 million SoundScan 1993-present
1.1 BMG Music Club 1989-2002 (BMG Music Club closed in 2009)

                          8.9 million sold

                                          • Have a feeling the "Control" number might be too low.

                                            RIAA 5 million (89)
                                            BMG Music Club 883k (2002)
                                            Soundscan 1993-present 830k

Album is at least at 7 million without Columbia House and not knowing what it has shipped since it's last cert over 32 years ago and IF it sold as much at Columbia House we'd be looking at close to 8 million without knowing it's actual shipments.

I'd say the rest are pretty fair, with maybe "janet." being higher, it's so hard to know to since they never update anything.

                                              • It was a massive album! I always say this, it's last cert was April 94, the album made the year-end in 93, 94 and 95. Hopefully we'll know soon! ;)

                                                • So, the Janet album sold..
                                                  Soundscan Sales + Streams - 7,825,000
                                                  BMG Club - 860,000

8,685,000 units sold with those figures alone. That album is definitely eligible for at least 9x-Platinum. Damn!!!

For that album to sell that much, it would've had to have done better in America than it did. If it's accurate, the "janet." album is eligible for an 8x platinum certification. Then you have to find an estimated 12 million copies outside the US, which would be hard to do considering the US is the biggest music market, the only market you can sell ten million copies of an album. Virgin was like other labels in the way they boost an artist's albums. Capitol said the same thing about Tina Turner's Private Dancer but now, it's accepted that it's sold 10 million.

Judging on its certifications, "janet." is indeed over 10 million worldwide though.
