Thinking somewhere between 8-10. R&B chart points weren't included in the Hot 100 until 1999.

Erykah Badu's "On and On" peaked at #12 on the Hot 100 but reached #58 on Hot 100 Airplay - https://www.billboard.com/artist/erykah-badu/

"Got 'Til It's Gone" peaked at #36 on Hot 100 Airplay and #3 on R&B Airplay. Have a feeling it would have still been a Top 10 Hot 100 single, but still fallen off the charts due to the lack of pop support.

      More examples:

Aaliyah - The One I Gave My Heart To
      #9 Hot 100
      #41 Hot 100 Airplay

      https://www.billboard.com/artist/aaliyah/

Monica - Why I Love You So Much
      #9 Hot 100
      #46 Hot 100 Airplay

      https://www.billboard.com/artist/monica/

Plus Virgin would've heavily promoted the single just like they did overseas. Janet always had big single sales in US, not to mention it would've been a pre-album release so I think sales would've been strong for at least the first couple weeks. If I had to predict, maybe around #7 as a peak on the Hot 100 but who knows.

Either way, the song was still an international hit regardless of its lower airplay in the states. It has also gained a lot more appreciation in recent years.

      • Why wasn't it released in the USA? Sounds way more like something that would be loved in the USA than in Europe. Never understood this choice.

        • I'm sure Virgin was shocked it wasn't the out-of-box radio hit she's used to, but at the time a lot of popular R&B acts weren't doing as well at pop radio. Jewel, matchbox20, Natalie Imbruglia and a lot of adult top 40 artists we having huge impact at top 40.

As I've mentioned a lot, the sad part is songs like "GTIG" and "I Get Lonely" would have had a larger impact on the Hot 100 had the R&B points been allowed since they were so big at R&B radio.

Most of the 86-93 songs probably would have even hit #1. Janet's impact at R&B was way too big. 16 #1 R&B singles, 14 of them before the chart points were allowed.

          • Y'all are so mad for no reason I'm just the messenger and stan and I don't need to lie to y'all which the information y'all look up y'all self like everybody else on here look up info now let's stay on topic on Janet record sales the sales that matter on here.

My thing is Janet Jackson certifying her stats would be difficult considering as I stated before she been had multiple labels Virgin would definitely I see update her sales but her sales still would be discombobulated.

I think the Got 'Til It's Gone video wasn't release in the States due to it's video I read something about that recently.

            • No one is mad at all. We’re just trying to correct part of what you said about the poor ticket sales. There was no tour officially announced. So there were no ticket sales. Nothing more. We know you like JJ!

                • I always thought the 20 Y.O era was very disappointing. Call on me was nice enough and so excited but it was so focused on looking back at her career & showed very little progression. I feel as someone else said that she did it to get out of her contract as quick as possible. I did always wish that do it 2 me was a single but would not have been well received at the time post super bowl.

                  • Will "Rhythm Nation" be Janet's first diamond album?

                    6 million RIAA (1992)
                    1.7 million (1993-2022)
1.1 BMG Music Club (RIAA did not include club sales until 1995)

                    8.8 million without Columbia House.

                    • I feel the biggest album that should have got more of a push by Janet is 20 Y.O. I like the album and I don't like the album but I feel she should have released more music videos I hate that she let Jermaine Dupri be all over that album ugh at least the album multi platinum.

                              • Call On Me sound like a bootleg Dilemma by Nelly & Kelly Rowland but I have a soft spot for Call On Me love the video but I always say that song should have been at least Platinum due to it charting at #25 on the Hot 100 and that's a nice position considering that song was blacklisted but the song was successful worldwide Call On Me is actually her most successful blacklisted record.

I’m from Brazil. She had Come Back To Me in Soup Opera Rainha da Sucata’s (means Scrap Queen) soundtrack in 1990. CBTM until today is played in brazilian flashback themed radios.

Call On Me and Feedback had a very good rotation too. By the way I started my interest in Janet’s career after watch Feedback’s music video on Brazilian MTV Channel.

                                          I just wish Janet records from 2004 - 2015 sell as much as 1986 - 2001 is

Let's hope when/if What's It Gonna Be is updated to 1x Platinum, Janet is rightfully credited.
