No, she's not doing that. But in order to buy anything, a tour-book, a t-shirt, a bag... literally anything, in the venue and on her website, you need to buy her CD too. So, you're buying a CD as a condition to buy something else. That's why we had that album charting whenever she had a show.
And what happens if the person bought the CD long time ago and already has it?
    This.

    Is that your collection?

How many copies of Unbreakable you have? 20-30

        • It's not mine, I was just joking. But many fans have round 10 copies because of the tour. I have only four. 3 CD's, all 3 versions, and I have it on wax, that one is my favourite.

          • What is your guys favourite Janet chart and sales record?

Mine is cleary the fact that Tha's The Way Love Goes is the first and only single in history to debut at number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart

That's insane! It also debuted at #4 on the overall Airplay Chart tying Mimi's I'll Be There at the time.

              • Good question!

I like that she was the first artist to have a #1 single in the 80s, 90s and 00s. And that she's the first black artist (and 3rd overall) to have a #1 album in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s.

Oh, and Rhythm Nation 1814 having #1 singles in 3 separate years (1989, 1990 and 1991) and still managing to become the best selling album of 1990!

Janet had 16 consecutive top 10 singles between 1989 and 1995, quite an acheivement but I think Madonna, I could be wrong, had 17 consecutive top 10 singles between 1984-1989 with 16 being consecutive top 5 singles, she beat the Beatles top 5 record.

Oh yeah, Twenty Foreplay, despite it's AMAZING video, wasn't released as a single

                      I stand corrected

                      • 21 CONSECUTIVE top 10 singles is an INSANE achievement, especially when you consider that the streak started in the 80s and ended in the 2000s!

                                        • Hey guys,

i wanted to let you know that all relevant 80s issue of the "Music & Media" magazine have been uploaded, which tracked European charts in the 80s and 90s: You can find it Here

If you like and have the time, you can go there, browse all the issues and compile all chart runs for Janet's albums and single on the combined European album and single chart! The 90s issues are about to be added in a few weeks.

It's great fun to read some of the articles, too.

The issue 01/10/1989 has a great article for the release of RN1814 for example.

I did some digging about your claim re: billboard.

The only thing I could find was an ad placed by MTV in billboard magazine on June 13 1998. Trying to make a pile of marketing guff look official by wrongly attributing it to Billboard is kind of weak .. Heres the link https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=YQ4 ... &q&f=false

On one hand, Control’s impact can be measured through accolades. It’s sold upwards of 14 million records; seven of its nine songs infiltrated airwaves; six were top 20 hits and five cracked the top five. It even earned Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis a Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. But on the other, influence best quantifies its importance. Beyoncé similarly fired her father, Mathew Knowles, as her manager ahead of releasing her best work, and newer artists like Tinashe have co-opted elements of Control -- from the music to Jackson’s aura during that era. Tinashe, like Ciara before her, is a stylistic disciple of Jackson, and Control opened the door for both Beyoncé and Rihanna to amass and wield the authority they hold.
"Records" could be interpreted as album and singles sales combined, though.
                                            However that number is everywhere.

I saw some of the earlier posts here, and Wayne's estimation seems pretty accurate to me, given the data that we have, but I'm surprised that some accused Janet of inflating her numbers. She never claimed anything but 65 million albums and 100 million records sold.

                                            http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/ ... album-book
100 million records is even underwhealming when we know that she sold 50 million singles, so she could easily claim 120 million and be very close to the truth. Those claims of 160 million records came from BMG and could mean anything. She's credited as the author of many songs performed by other stars: Drake (twice), Kendrick Lamar, Kylie Minogue, Usher, Beyoncé, Lil Wayne (twice), A Tribe Called Quest, Tinashe, Future, Wale, Piles, Ne-Yo, Arturo Sandoval, Trey Songz, Shaquille O'Neal , Lil' Romeo, T-Pain, Thalia, Missy Elliott, TLC, Lauryn Hill, Eddie Murphy, Blood Orange, Solange... Her songs were also covered by many regional stars, from Swedish heavy metal bands like Warmen to Swedish singer Nanne Grönvall to Japanese pop stars like Hitomi Shimatani and Jazz artists like Stanley Clark.

She's even covered in Serbia for a soundtrack of popular film "Mi nismo an?eli 2". That hardly helped but if you want to hear "Let's Wait A While" in Serbian, here you are...
                                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDFV0BF4VLU

However, BMG probably manipulated with it a bit and somehow came to 160 million records sold.

But we all know that she has sold her 11 studio albums and 2 compilations in amazing 65-70 million copies and every Janet fan is more than impressed with that, especially if we know that her first two albums weren't really hers, and that when she released last 2 albums and 1 compilation sales were really low in general and she was in her late 40s. Add to it 50 million singles and videos and that's 115-120 million records. That's impressive number in any case, but especially if we know how many releases she had. Anyone who's denying that is either delusional or vicious, but that denial is not changing anything.
                                            Gone.

Maybe 130 million records max including videos. Not bad at all!!!
