I am still surprised by the success of the song... and yes, it of course is spurred by playlisting (although not likely as much as others given how it still emerges at #1 on Billboard despite sometimes being predicted to be behind in total streams) - but it manages to go #1 in streaming from Nov/early Dec. That's insane... that's not all playlisting obviously.

2020 was undoubtedly a special year, in large part because of COVID fatigue. AIW was the cure that everyone was looking for. Though she didn't dominate as hard this year, especially in Europe, she still had a massive and exciting season. ❄ Mariah's Massive Merriest Milestones ❄



❄ 50/50: AIWFCIY has now spent 50 weeks inside the Hot 100's top 50, Mariah's first and only song to do so, leading the formidable WBT by 9 weeks. It trails WBT however for most weeks in the top 10, but its 20th week there breaks the tie with OSD and moves it into second place on its own amongst Mariah's hits.


❄ 5 in 5: This is the first season in which AWIFCIY has spent 5 weeks in the Hot 100 top 5, besting 2019 and 2020 where it spent 4 weeks in the top 5 in each. Just like 2019 and 2020 however, AIW has charted for 7 weeks this season, the 3rd year to do so.


❄ 2 awesome: AIWFCIY's 11th week in the Hot 100 top 2 ties it with ABMB's impressive performance as the equal second longest run of Mariah's songs in the top 2. Both songs are behind enormous chart toppers WBT and OSD in equal first place. Rare company indeed for AIW.


❄ Gr8 chart run: AIWFCIY spends its 8th week this season on the Streaming Songs chart, its longest single run on this chart in a season, starting in November and going through to January. It has previously charted for 7 weeks in each of the past two seasons starting in 2019 and 2020. Among its 8 weeks it matches its record from last season of 5 weeks straight at #1, and achieves a new best of 6 weeks all up in the top 5.


❄ Speaking of streaming: First appearing on Billboard's Streaming Songs chart in 2013, AIWFCIY has now appeared on that chart for 10 consecutive years through to 2022. However, it just sneaks that in as it didn't actually appear on that chart in the 2014 Christmas season. It charted in January 2014 as part of the 2013 Christmas season. Still fantastic achievement.


❄ Keep playing that song: With 6 weeks this season on the Radio Songs chart, AIWFCIY matches its run from 2020 as the most number of weeks it has charted on airplay in a single season. It commenced its chart run a week earlier in the calendar last year, but this year it benefits from shifting Christmas and chart dates and adds a week later in the season. It has previously managed 5 weeks each in 2018 and 2019.


❄ Music to our ears: Merry Christmas equals the huge Music Box for weeks in top 100 of the Billboard 200 chart with 77. These 77 weeks put both albums in second place amongst Mariah's longest charting top 100 albums after her legendary debut. Merry Christmas still has some way to go before it approaches her other albums for weeks in the upper reaches of the chart, but it's on its way.


❄ Setting sale: Merry Christmas continues to rack up actual sales, this season reaching 8 weeks on the Top Album Sales chart, equalling 2019 and 2020's runs as the longest seasonal runs on this chart since it was created. Of note, this chart only has 100 positions published so this is a fantastic effort.
