I was kind of hoping we would get a surprise red vinyl variant of Honeymoon like the Urban Outfitters one same as we got for Ultraviolence & Lust For Life but apparently not.
I think this is the first time in a while that Chemtrails over the Country Club hasn't been Lana's lowest streamed project.
Yes it’s been her lowest for a long time. In fact post NFR chemtrails came at a really challenging time in the public narrative towards Lana. She was a critical and commercial darling off the back of NFR and when she went from the ocean to heartlands (musically speaking) and released an album that was quite different to what people loved about NFR it meant that chemtrails felt like the anomaly in her catalogue. It moved away from the sunny folky vibes to more country and traditional folk themes that were based around the south and Arkansas. Areas she had not previously written about as she was so west coast - specifically L.A (or occasionally east coast) centric.
She also had all the question for the culture drama that was brewing around the BLM time and the covid era see through mask that caused controversy. Even chemtrails title was problematic for some as it touched on conspiracy theories but also some felt it alluded to white privilege.
I do love to see it gaining appreciation because I think it’s a beautiful album.
