Scorpion went from being #1 on Catalog Albums to being entirely removed this week? Is it a glitch or faulty changes. Catalog Albums is a disaster now.

Billboard also needs to make Greatest Hits albums pure sales only, similar to NOW! Compilations. Every older artist is just having all their hits streams go towards their Greatest Hits, and their studio albums are completely being harmed. It is also unfair towards studio albums in terms of charting.

It would be better if they actually determined whether the streams were from the greatest hits album or from the studio album (i.e. what else was streamed also). If it was just one song then its a song stream and not an album stream.
If its multiple tracks then its an album stream. This would also reduce the ludicrous situation where the no.1 song creates the no.1 album also - almost every other country has taken measures to reduce this, but not the USA. Probably because removing the double dipping makes the market look smaller rather than overinflated like it is in the US....
Catalog albums became a disaster as soon as it included streaming - and to an extent the bb200 with albums vanishing from the top tier to re-appear the following week because the other version was selling 'better'. It's a shame they no longer the publish the catalog sales chart and we have extrapolate our own version....

              Catalog Albums/Billboard 200 Chart Update – February 8, 2020

Queen Returns to #1 Catalog; ‘Guardians’ Ousts Abbey Road

Queen’s Greatest Hits returns for its 32nd total week at #1 and second of 2020, unseating Drake’s Scorpion. The latter was classified as a current once again by Billboard, leading to its abrupt removal from the catalog chart where it had spent the last three weeks at #1. Scorpion at #31 is still ranked ahead of Queen’s album (#39) on the BB200. Had Scorpion remained in current status, Queen’s album would have spent the last three weeks at the top catalog spot as well, and would be working on a five week #1 run. Despite that, it passes up Michael Jackson’s Number Ones this week for the #8 rank for catalog chart weeks at #1.

Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 returns to the #1 sales spot among catalog albums, bringing it to 28 weeks at the top spot. It has been the #1 selling catalog album for at least one week in four consecutive years now, and during that time it has not left the catalog sales top sellers, with 191 straight weeks since its transition to catalog status. It unseats The Beatles’ Abbey Road which has been #1 for 14 of the last 17 weeks. The albums are ranked #23 and #24, respectively, on this week’s sales tally, with Queen’s Greatest Hits right behind at #25.

This week also marks the 10th time that Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 has been the #1 catalog album in sales while not even being ranked on the Billboard 200. The last time was for four weeks in a five week span in June and July of last year. The only other album to be the #1 selling catalog album without making the BB200 in the same week was Alan Jackson’s Precious Memories Collection for a week in October 2018.

              MIG’S MILESTONES
Michael Jackson, Thriller – #161 BB200, #10 CS – Spends its 450th week among the top 200 selling albums overall(*).
              Adele, 21 – #46 Cat, #150 BB200 – Also collects its 450th week in the Billboard 200.
Bon Jovi, Greatest Hits: The Ultimate Collection – #175 BB200 – Reaches 150 weeks overall on the BB200.
Five Finger Death Punch, A Decade Of Destruction – #39 Cat, #142 BB200 – The first retrospective collection for the metal band spends its 100th week on the BB200 overall.
Pink Floyd, The Dark Side Of The Moon – #8 CS – Reaches 1350 weeks among the top selling Catalog albums.
(*) = Total includes Comprehensive chart weeks from late 2003 – late 2009.

              NEW ON THE CHARTS
YNW Melly, I Am You – #40 Cat, #143 BB200 – A mixtape album for 20 year old rap star Jamell Demons; it was released in August 2018, but did not reach the BB200 until January 2019. Demons is awaiting trial for double murder charges; his breakout single was “Murder On My Mind”.
Dan + Shay, Dan + Shay – #2 Cat, #56 BB200, #13 CS – First week among the top catalog sellers for the country duo’s self-titled album, which was a Catalog debut in December 2019.

WANDERING STARS – Reserved for long-absent albums returning to the charts (NOTE: will only include albums that have been absent for a year or more for the first three months of 2020):
2Pac, Greatest Hits – #14 Cat, #93 BB200, #27 CS – First week on Catalog Sales this year. (This album doesn’t meet the rule above of being absent for a year, but it’s this week’s only album that returns to one of the charts for the first time in 2020.)

CATALOG NOTES – Parenthetical numbers are weeks in the top 10 followed by 2019 weeks in the top 10:
On Catalog Sales (CS): The number of catalog albums on this week’s Top Album Sales chart dips nine from last week to 34. – Returning to the top 10 for the fourth time already in 2020 is Michael Jackson’s Thriller (106/4), rising a spot to #10. It replaces Rush’s The Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits 1974-1987, which I am sorry to say leaves the chart from #10 after being #1 two weeks ago. – Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 (5/0) jumps 36-21 for the biggest move among the charting catalog albums this week. – The Beatles’ 1 (180/0) is the longest running of this week’s chart departures, leaving Top Album Sales after a seven week run.
On Catalog/BB200: The quick departure of Drake’s Scorpion (4/4) from the #1 spot, along with the drop of The Beatles’ Abbey Road (59/4) from 9-18, both ending four week top 10 runs, make way for two top 10 re-entries. Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits (132/1) returns to the chart at #5 for its first top 10 week (and only second chart week) of 2020, and J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive (38/1) jumps 19-10 for its first top 10 week since April 27 of last year. – Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap rises 28-17 for the biggest chart jump in an otherwise flat week. #17 is also a new Catalog chart peak for the album. – Frank Sinatra’s Ultimate Sinatra remained on the chart through the Christmas holiday, but drops out this week after a 17 week run. The longest catalog run ending on the BB200 for a Catalog album is just five weeks, for Drake’s Scorpion as it returns to current status.

TOP CATALOG ALBUMS WITH NO TOP 10 WEEKS IN 2020 / NO TOP 10 WEEKS EVER – Numbers in parentheses are overall chart weeks, overall top 10 weeks, weeks on chart in 2020, overall peak position, 2020 peak position, current position. If the top album with no 2020 top 10 weeks is the same as the album with no top 10 weeks overall, only one is shown:
Catalog Sales: The Beach Boys, Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys (251/54/6/#1/#11/#11)
              Dan + Shay, Dan + Shay (1/0/1/#13/#13/#13)

              Catalog: Soundtrack, Moana (7/0/5/#11/#11/#11)

              Regards, Miguelito
